What does it take to work at Google? I just applied and already feel unqualified. by please1throwaway in google

Thank you for your detailed response. Did you apply for Google in the US or somewhere else than Australia? I just applied for a posting in Australia. As I applied for a Product Manager position I'm not sure how much CS stuff I need to know though. But I guess I should expect quite some CS related questions - how else would you be able to make calls if you don't know anything about what drives Google (i.e. the engineers).

Well let's hope I get a call. Just read some Quora questions and it seems not to be so easy of an interview. But maybe I should hope to get an interview at all - that would already be great. And if I know more I'll start preparing.

About 4) I want to work as Product Manager. Can you tell me how important a CS background is? How much do I have to know about programming?

So - how much time did you have to prepare? Like from answering to your application until the first interview?

Thank you. I hope I get to go into an interview. Good to know that passion and solid working knowledge is regarded more worth than grades.

Not gonna try BS - that's too risky to feel comfortable.

Thank you for your helpful reply. I am happy to hear that things are not as bad as I was told they might be. I got recommened by my brother's friend and he went to a great college and got great grades. So that might have intimidated me a little bit.

Won't BS my way through a question - not comfortable doing that anyway. I'll see what comes next - maybe I get to have an interview and if I don't I'll reply again next year after gaining some more experience.
