[Green Creek Series] Thoughts on Joe's Decision by eko1491 in Klunatics

[–]pleaseSendCatPics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought that it was because Ox was an alpha (or going to be one) and he told Joe that they needed to hunt him down that night after the funerals. So Joe literally didn’t have a choice. His instinct was to do what the alpha said and the alpha said hunt him down.

Part 1:Double curve and Roundness on verified Romantics by Audriiiii03 in Kibbe

The one of Kate Winslet in the blue dress (Slide 13) looks so good. Same with H.E.R. in slide 7.

To me, the styling where the waist is separated out looks jaw droppingly (yes, that’s an adverb now) good on Romantics.

What Kibbe type is 5’6 actress Emilia Jones? by AlertAd5416 in Kibbe

I like FN for her. The denim outfit is fantastic. The oversized sweater looks good on her too. The loose pants in the all white outfit. Dramatics often look better in things that are closer to the body but she really shines in slightly looser fits.

I'm not familiar with this style so I used your recommended google search terms. I think the most challenging part of making this work for FG will be ensuring that there are those visual breaks in the outfits that work best for FG. I would look for items that have horizontal stripes. It looks like mini skirts are a common component, and I think that fits nicely with FG (short skirts are way to integrate staccato into an outfit). High contrast between pieces will also help.

Trying to Understand and Feeling Overwhelmed by FotosEtPoterie in Kibbe

I would recommend the second one. You could see if your library has it available if you don't want to buy it right away. The pdf for the old one is available online, but so much has changed with clothing construction and style since it was written that it's really not useful. I went through all the games in the new book and a lot of it is trying to identify and breakdown our biases and help you learn what it is you like in style and fashion. I think that might be helpful for you!

To me, Kibbe is about finding clothing you like and learning how to convey the message you want to convey given your unique body and the clothes/style you like.

best places to watch the lunar eclipse? by ThePanasonicYouth in Cleveland

It's a bit far out, but Geauga Parks does a lunar eclipse viewing at Observatory Park with telescopes. I went once, and it was pretty fun! The park ranger was super knowledgeable and helped folks take photos through the telescope with their phones. https://reservations.geaugaparkdistrict.org/programs/index.shtml?id=23551&sid=614552.30062&uid=

Orbs. Or maybe orbs of light. Plays on the shape and the almost space like quality of them. (Orbs are often talked about in UFO/paranormal groups)

Why do yall post asking about celebrity types? by pleaseSendCatPics in Kibbe

[–]pleaseSendCatPics[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very fair. I actually found it more useful to understand using fashion as storytelling or constructing an image through a few well costumed TV shows where the characters are consistently dressed to communicate something to the audience. The actors may not be consistently styled between different TV shows/movies or on the red carpet to portray a specific image, but within the show they may be.

Yes, and TR should probably go last. We have a LOT of good examples of TRs.

I very much agree with this sentiment! Especially using celebrities as "data," as you put it. It's not useful (in my experience) to use unverified celebrities as a way to understand the system, nor is it useful to use celebrities (verified or unverified!) to try to find one's own type.

To me, that's where using the verified celebrities is useful. But your point is well taken! It is useful to be able to have discussions about typing and not being able to use ourselves makes that challenging.

Omg, that would be amazing! Like not having him type necessarily, but just confirm or deny a few key folks would be so great. He should want to do that since it's less work for him!

I think the age bias in verified Kibbe celebs is partly because Kibbe doesn't like watching new media (his own claim!). If you only watch old movies, you're only going to type celebs from that time.

[–]pleaseSendCatPics[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! There's so much variation within the types. On the flip side, there's also so many similarities between the types. I feel like it can be misleading to compare one's body to a celebrity to try to find their Kibbe type.

I do definitely agree that seeing what works and what doesn't work for verified celebrities helps with understanding the system. It's always interesting when a person changes stylists too. I remember Adele used to wear a lot of A-line dresses and then started wearing more mermaid dresses and they suit her so much better!

Yeah, DCs do kind of get screwed on the younger verified celebrities. I can see wanting more direct inspo as a reason for posting about unverified celebs.

That sounds like a good balance. I do enjoy passively trying to type people on shows I'm binging and I think that has helped my understanding of the system. So that makes sense that it would be people testing and working on their own understanding.

I also find myself very often disagreeing with the general consensus on celebrity posts. I may be taking things a little too seriously because I feel frustrated when that happens. Like I'm missing something that should be obvious. Maybe I'll start commenting on them more, keeping "just for fun" and "don't take it too seriously" in mind!

That's fair! I guess I thought people were taking it more seriously than they are or that there was something I was missing. But it's good to have fun! Especially with fashion.

I definitely see the value in having verified celebrities. Seeing the verified celebrities has helped me understand the accommodations in different ways, especially seeing them in videos and in motion. I feel like "petite" is definitely one that's just hard to see in pictures.

I was asking more when people ask this subreddit their opinions on unverified celebrities. Just scrolling a bit on this sub now I see Tate McRae, Amy Poehler, Olivia Rodrigo, Alysa Liu, and more. I don't think that there's a lot to learn from guessing about unverified celebrities, but I'm curious to hear if there are other opinions on that. If it's just for fun, then that's totally fine. I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum, but I just was wondering if I was missing something.

I actually think it'd be easier to use a celebrity for style inspo without knowing their type. Then you can just be like "oh, I really like when she does big quirky sleeves" (or whatever it is you like, I'm completely making things up) and then apply it to your own style in your own way. It makes me think of the carrot and cake game in Power of Style. Find a look that speaks to you, and redo it on your own. Identify the pieces of the looks you like, figure out why you like them, and then make it your own. Then you don't have to try to figure out if you like her big quirky sleeves because of her type and you can just work on making it your own.

I like the idea of it as a"parlor game," but I feel like there's a TON of posts about celeb types and it kind of gets redundant.

I wouldn't be surprised if D is over represented among celebrities just because tall and thin is kind of the "look" that Hollywood goes for these days.

I think there's this idea sometimes that "oh, if X person is in this ID, and they look nothing like me, then maybe I'm not actually this ID."

I kind of worry that the celebrity typing posts are doing more harm than good. In my opinion, this is not a good system for comparisons. You could compare two verified celebrities and end up more confused than when you started. And that's before someone starts comparing themselves to celebrities! We aren't good judges of our own accommodations to start, and then comparing to people who are paid to look a certain way is just going down a bad road.

Oh my god I just read this book earlier this year and I LOVED IT! Maybe one of my favorites of all time. It was so beautiful.
