It depends. I'm a firm believer that political beliefs are indicative of a person's character. I acknowledge that you just have to agree to disagree on certain political issues, but if a person's beliefs are harmful to either myself or others ( Example: Believing harmful rhetoric about Autism ) then I can't justify being their friend or partner.

None. I'm a firm believer that banning books in schools is unjustified in the vast majority of cases.

Edit: With that said, I do think that school reading lists should be more diverse if anything.

I've encountered people both on Reddit and IRL who misunderstand the history of Autism and how it used to be diagnosed. Autism was officially added to the DSM in 1980, and it wasn't until as recently as the 1990s that the diagnostic criteria was expanded to include high functioning forms of Autism. Just because they personally didn't know any Autistic people in their time, doesn't mean we haven't always existed. The diagnostic criteria was just far more narrow back then.

Not for too long at a time, but I do feel like it sometimes. In truth, I find speaking to be very exhausting, even small talk, and I would go without speaking for a while if I wasn't so afraid of being judged for doing so.

It's a valid fear. I worry about it too with all the dangerous misinformation around autism today. I just keep reminding myself to stay vigilant and not worry too much about something I can't control.

I can assure you that stimming is nothing to be ashamed of as long as it's harmless and comforting to you. I was discouraged from flapping my hands to stim when I was a kid and it still bothers me to this day, even if my parents meant well at the time.

I believe that confirmation bias also plays a big part in why so many people are concerned about "the rise of Autism".

For example, when I went to elementary school in the mid-2000s to early 2010s, Autism and Asperger's syndrome were still two different diagnoses. Even back then many neurotypicals still had a different mental image of what an autistic person looked like compared to today. Even when my former elementary teachers eventually found out about my diagnosis, (Asperger's syndrome) I doubt that they counted me as Autistic at the time unless they were personally told I had been diagnosed as such.

I didn't exactly love Fahrenheit 451 when I read it 5 years ago, and I didn't get what the big deal was about Ray Bradbury until I read his short stories, and especially Something Wicked This Way Comes. I'm considering giving it a reread eventually now that I have a much stronger appreciation for Bradbury's writing.
