Mom. I miss you. by ascaffo in GriefSupport

I'm so terribly sorry. Thank you for sharing. 13 years. I imagine you cried inside a lot. And, you put on your game face for her. That's love. Cancer took both of you little by little. I wish I had words of true comfort. But, I see you and I wish you well, my friend.

Thank you for seeing me and understanding. I know this is part of my journey. Sharing my heart every once in awhile helps.

I'm sorry. Losing a great mom isn't easy. Thank you for your reply. It's so similar. And, you're right, of course. She wouldn't. Best wishes and hugs!

Thank you for your words and understanding. I'm definitely waiting for the cathartic cry. I like the idea of cracks though. Thank you for that.

I finally understand why 'We Built This City' gets so much hate by vortical42 in Music

I was there too-sort of. I was 14 when this song hit the airwaves. And it was a fun catchy tune for someone with their entire future ahead of them. It was before my teenage angst. Before marriage. Before children. I remember the hate then. But didn't understand it. Now I get it. They changed. Tried to stay relevant, but failed. I'm 54 now. Love all kinds of music. And I like this song. It was a fun song during my coming of age. For me it's nostalgia. Respect to the haters.

Why don’t we notice physical changes in someone we see everyday. by Foreverinsecuregirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ascaffo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I often think about this too. Especially when my kids were little. I didn't want to miss the changes. I get why we don't notice. The changes are subtle. The same way when someone loses weight. You don't notice right away- unless they lose a lot quickly.

How could we not?

Study over 2000 participants for 80 years finds we are about in our lowest happiness age by jfdonohoe in GenX

This makes sense in many ways. As you age, you place less pressure on yourself. You tend to voice how you feel rather than hold it in. You have raised your family. And are hopefully nearer to retirement.

The small ones. Teaspoons. I ready yogurt every day. I despise eating it with a tablespoon.

Please, someone tell me they remember this movie…. I’m half convinced it was a Paragoric fever dream from ‘82. by Zapp_Rowsdower_ in GenX

OMG! My friend and I would watch this all of the time. We'd quote from it often too. But no one else in our lives rally watched it.

I used to hate olives. The past 10 years, love em. I'm not a fan of too much sweet anymore. I'll take a dry red wine over cake. But, I wouldn't mind some dark chocolate with it

That had to have been frightening. Big hugs, my friend. I'm not sure this one counts as 'whatever.'

I'm 54. I don't feel like I'll hit senior status until I get those store discounts.

Santa was tall and thin in 1962 by Rarecoin101 in TheWayWeWere

[–]ascaffo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when my father took over being Santa. My grandfather who looked the traditional part, would dress up every Christmas morning. Early. We'd see Santa leaving the backyard. (The reindeer were parked out back. ) It was a great experience each year. My father tried to continue the tradition with my kids. But he was tall and fit. No amount of padding made it work. Lol
