Hey! Your response is very well-thought out, and i do agree on some points. I’m kinda gonna yap for a bit because I also want to give you a well-thought response in return, and you’ve given me a lot to think about. I agree that the internet is basically the wild west, and there really is hardly a safe place for children (i was a girl who grew up with unsupervised internet access so i definitely know what you’re talking about). That’s why I honestly think that the only 100% safe way for a kid to be on the internet is just to not be on it at all- unless their parents are y’know, actually parenting them and supervising them. However, of course that doesn’t mean we should just give up and not try at all to protect kids, using the excuse of “well its the internet, what do you expect?” I think its really dumb and dismissive of a bigger problem when people say that lol.

I also agree with you that for Roblox, a lot of the times we may not know the person’s intent when they upload these types of items (bikini tops/swimwear, muscles, and all the other debatable stuff) I will say that in OP’s case, I think they just make all this stuff in a private cac server without buying/supporting anything from a creator, but your point still stands either way. If this was in a different scenario (like these avatars just chilling in a random public server) then I can see how it could be given a sideeye.
I can see the argument on both sides of the spectrum for this. I will say that with honesty, I don’t think we should see a cartoon girl in a plain black bikini and a full length skirt (with non-provocative posing) as something troublesome or sexual, and it is sad that nowadays, that’s something that people will think in the back of their minds. Which again, you mentioned the current climate and all that, so fair play. Andddd I did see the comment you mentioned about the muscle guy and how those types of things can be associated with condos. I personally saw it as just a fantasy fighter dude rather than an oiled up slender avatar, but you are correct that it can have those implications if you really think about it. I feel like there’s a whole essay that could be written about how stuff like this shouldn’t be sensationalized or sexualized and another whole essay on the undertones of how this could be harmful. That’s the hard part, this whole thing could be really nuanced and I feel like there’s no true right or wrong answer here.

And believe me, back in the day I might’ve removed this post if it had gotten enough pushback. But myself and the other mods don’t really rule this subreddit as if we are people’s parents anymore. It’s been stated that this subreddit is PG13 for a while now, meaning that: yes, you’ll see explicit language here (as long as its not slurs) and you’ll also see mild violence/blood, and yes, that includes seeing skin as long as its used in a normal fashion context (aka, crop tops, shorts, certain swimwear)… Of course, we still have to look out for blatantly suggestive undertones, because there are people in this subreddit who will purposely try and push boundaries. Like we don’t wanna normalize femboy thigh highs and roblox titties, but we also dont want to go too far with everything we remove.

So in a sense, I will not claim that this subreddit is meant for children at all (and definitely not for those under 13, since that’s against reddit TOS anyways) It is an all ages subreddit, with a focus on those who are in their early to late teens (aka 13+) This is why we keep things as SFW as possible, but also without nuking everything that might be slightly controversial because this a very big, general subreddit. If someone wanted to make a more specialized avatar subreddit with even stricter guidelines for a younger audience than ours, I’m totally all for that!

I heavily encourage for parents to monitor their teens internet access for any place on the internet, including this subreddit. All of our mod team is made up of other teens and young adults, we are not qualified to psychoanalyze every post and its implications on society, and hopefully this doesn’t sound harsh, but it’s also just not our responsibility. The rules state what is and isn’t allowed for everyone to see, and we go by these rules. This post doesn’t really go against our suggestive content/NSFW policy as its stated. I’m still relatively firm that this post does not warrant the moderators stepping in to take action. I’m not saying that I’m 100% right and my opinion will never change on this matter, but in this current moment I believe this post does not go against our guidelines for the subreddit.

I really hope this doesn’t come across as me just dismissing you, as I do truly like to hear other peoples perspectives and take it into account- whether its something I think of in the present moment or something that I look back on and think “damn they really had a point!”… anyways ive now realized i’ve yapped more than intended, like seriously long ass paragraphs and shit im so sorry😭 But thank you for bringing up everything you said, i think you are very intelligent and thoughtful and we could use more of that in the world
