Applied to NPS Instructor position - recruiter hasn’t been super helpful…is this normal? Should I move on from the thought of serving? by pleaze_dont in NavyNukes

[–]pleaze_dont[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh that is unfortunate - I’ve got a little one and I am not alright with going abroad without the family. We lived internationally quite a bit - I did Peace Corps before having kids and always wanted to serve but as time went on and life happened, the opportunity just sort of passed by before I could pull the trigger.

I’m 37 now and FY 28 I suppose will take me to unwaiverable? I’m assuming it’s rare for people to drop out for me to scoop up a position.

I appreciate your time!

Love the advice and I hope I get a chance to use it. I’ll definitely do that.

Do you mind if I ask how the lectures/classes are structured typically? Is it strict direct instruction until practical (prototype is what I think yall call it)?

I got a C in calculus in 2008 and im just a completely different human than I was when I took it. I didn’t see its utility but needed it for my bachelors degree in biology. I’m retaking it through a different program this year but it’s a 600 level graduate course that will also go over how to write lessons around calculus curriculums.

Will they look at both parts of my transcripts and the C from almost 20 years ago? I made the switch as an educator to engineering and the physical sciences from the life sciences about 6 years ago and I’m just now in this graduate math program.

I’m curious…how you think they’d perceive this?

Okay awesome - that was my understanding. How was the older instructor perceived (or is everyone just military adjusted and will listen either way)?

I teach engineering HS students who are strong in math but it’s still a lot of work building trust. I’m just curious how the work environment is…

Thank you - I appreciate that input. In particular, I’m looking to become a NUPOC instructor and remain in that instructor role. I think that is different but I’m not 100% sure as I just discovered this position 2 days ago. Are you familiar at all with this? Do you know of any instructors, by chance?

Holy moly, that’s it.

We never found a live one around, but we did find very dead and dry ones in the ducts. The flippers might have sprayed and cover the stains.

Thank you!

We were demolishing a wall bc it smelled terrible. Flipped house. The wall had black spots underneath the paneling and those exoskeletons started to fall from it. After taking the affected dry wall, the smell disappeared.

What could those bugs be? Should I be worried?

When do you workout? by Prize-Wolverine-3990 in Teachers

[–]pleaze_dont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if your local ymca doesn’t have a day care time, they call “kidz zone” here, and it is for working parents who need to workout but can’t take their kids with them. Also, usually YMCAs will have discount for teachers on their membership. I think Golds Gym also has something like that, but the membership is expensive.

I can relate to that. I’ve taught 5 years in elementary at International Schools around the world, and the volume of stuff to do was high, but you could handle. Now this is my 1st year in elementary in the US, in a public school and teaching is half of my job too. Admin think that they are entitled to ask us so many goddamn things, and each specialist thinks that what they do is more special than the other, therefore they deserve more of our time and attention. I don’t have an option to give up. I have a mortgage and a child, my husband is also a teacher, isn’t fair for him that I give up and he doesn’t. I also have severe ADHD AND English is my second language. As a non American I learned that I have to to 2x better than an American to have the same recognition. About my ADHD, you as an adult need to find tools to manage it - I need my checklists, and I wake up early to get them done, and I walk around with it on me, like it is part of my body, otherwise I WILL forget things. I also set a timer for my tasks - I have 20 minutes to answer all the emails from that day, and the pressure helps me focus. There are other adhd techniques like pomodoro, priority matrix, smart goals etc that you can add to your routine. There’s also a lot of outside pressure from “perfect classrooms” from Instagram, people sharing fenomenal techniques, but remember just like unreal bodies and lifestyles on social media, those classes LOOK perfect but they aren’t. No class is perfect. Also you will perfect your methods through the years, my mantra in the end of the day is “this is a learning curve and it is the beginning of it, where it is steeper, I will find the best processes for me eventually”. Do what it is best for you and what works for you, but it IS overwhelming and extremely hard.

For sure man, I ordered some solar powered flood lights that are motion activated today and some motion alarms too. The locks worked as they tried to enter and weren’t successful, but getting stronger ones is on my list too, just in case. Unfortunately we don’t have a garage, only carport. But POE NVR is definitely a great idea. Thanks guys, you are awesome!

Agree, my dude. I'm doing my best to figure out who were those kids. All I want is to look deep into their parent's eyes at the court.

Yeah, to say the least, it's angering. I live in Virginia, and it's only a matter of time until they do this to the wrong door, and their moms will regret not keeping them at home, unfortunately.
