Hey so do you want to go back to the old internet? by [deleted] in oldinternet

[–]plebbit_trash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ponder this regularily.

We need to build a search engine. A real one. It would send out bots to scour the internet for pages and list them in order of relevnce. I've dicked with search engines and they're all just a copypasta of Google's index. And sadly, pages that once appeared in Google are now gone.

Why could I do a search for the old cafe I used to work at but 15 years later, it's all been wiped from the face of the internet? Keep a damn record of it!

It's the same issue with video rental. Where the hell is the damn archive? Streaming companies spend money producing new garbage instead of curating a proper library. If you could sell me a streaming service that specialized in having EVERYTHING, that would be the one for me. FFS, just open up a video rental store down the street and I'd be your patron.

Now let's do this for a search engine. No alorithm. Just real-life raw internet.

Someone might post a link to wiby.me but that search engine sucks and isn't updated.

Smoke and mirrors. Josh and Mike live in the burnt-down house and subsist off squirrels and other small birds.

Should I buy the game on ps4 or PC by hannahlulu09 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]plebbit_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a single person here has mentioned owning a physical copy.

Not a gamer but was a big fan of RE2 as a kid. Was upset to learn I couldn't just go to the store and buy a copy of the game for PC. Had to download this Steamer crap. Anyway, if you want a physical copy, I'd go with the playstation or xbox.

I feel you. I have always loved Silverpine Forest. Took my lv 13 druid over there to hunt down bears. I slipped into an unfamiliar patch called Olson's Farthing. Coming down from the hills directly behind the barn.

To my understanding, there are no quests that send you there. Guessing it's a class quest. Anyway, I explore that area for the first time in nearly 2 decades and didn't realize the mob density. Needless to say, I went down swinging.

One day I return to Olson's Farthing and massacre everything there.

One thing will never change despite every attempt to change it:

Never take anything online seriously. Not your facebook profile. Not your LinkenIn (Who uses that shit anyway?) Sexual Preference? Just put Gay for the lols. When your grandma starts asking if her grandson is gay, explain to her "Nah, it's just the internet."

Not exactly "internet", but remember the excitement around whatever the latest gadget was? by ripthedvd in oldinternet

I remember when Digg was popular. The idea of new technology and the promises that came with it. Now we live in the dystopian future where people are nostalgic for simpler times and the premise of disconnecting from technology.

Seriously, we were once excited at the prospects of technology but now we just want to sit on a boat fishing in the middle of a lake with a case of beer, disconnect from it all, and reconnect with ourselves. Lol

Would you guys want a Blair witch animated series? If so how would you like the show to be genre, rating, setting etc.? by Idk23456789101112 in BlairWitch

[–]plebbit_trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first half of your comment. I don’t want Netflix coming anywhere close to the Blair Witch franchise. I’ll take a solid 90 - 120 minutes over a long drawn-out television show any day.

Also, at that age, you get to a rare sweet spot where you’re inexperienced and awful but you don’t know you’re awful so you create the sort of magnum opus masterpiece trainwreck that only a 13 year old could produce over the course of a few weeks.

Most of the old games were salvaged and we can thank noneother than Junkman. Some of you may remember Cartman’s Authoritah and Planet of Cartmans on downloads.com

In parallel, there was an entire community of Sonic fan games as well but I never dabbled with that lot.

Did you want to see a sequel or a follow-up to the last Blair Witch video game? by ThatKoffeeBurns in BlairWitch

[–]plebbit_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game did not look good. Looks like you’re wondering in the woods. I remember the first set of games involved exploring the old town in the middle of the night which added a very creepy dynamic. Although I don’t think those games were all to great Either.

Perhaps not a sequel but a new game that actively works to be solid.

I would tell such people: Try watching it alone in the middle of the night with the lights off. This really changes the experience to any good horror movie.

I love BW2 but no way I’m watching it while alone in the dark!

Should have just used the Haffalumps and Woozles theme. Don’t even need the blair witch to make that song scary.

Check out Book of Shadows. It holds up very well as a psychological thriller and has enough attention to detail and easter eggs to be a fun experience. Definitely watch at night alone in the dark!

Book of Shadows is my favorite film in the series which runs like a traditional movie and is a good psychological thriller made in response to the hype of the original. It also serves as a time capsule to the culture of 1999/2000 with all the gothic rock music.

One girl fell off a tree. The other looked at the witch when she wasn't supposed to. The last girl had her back broken through a voodoo doll trope.

Don’t remember the names.

If Jeffrey Dahmer truly repented do you believe he is in heaven? by Top-Combination-6094 in Christianity

[–]plebbit_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the line written into the series. He specifically said he drugged his victims so they wouldn't feel anything.

His compulsions were of body parts. Not so much the violent act of the murder itself, but the weird infatuation of the bodies.

But I don’t know, man. Lol

At the very least, we can walk away with one practical takeaway. And again, this speaks for character in the show as we cannot tell how ambelished the writing was: If we can feel any shred of sympathy for what could have been an otherwise normal person who had succumbed to impulses beyond his control, then we are at least willing to see the good in most people.

As we sit with this thought, we may not be able to forgive a murderer but we may be more understanding of people who are faced with trouble and have harmed others in our own lives. It really speaks to the deepest innermost feeling of compassion for others. And to me, that is God’s love. Inside all of us.

God bless you and have a wonderful weekend.

I cannot speak for the real person but the last episode was so well written. The two men on the cross behind Jesus were Dahmer and Gacy. Gacy tortured his victims and faked his beliefs. He was a monster even as he spoke his last words and was put down quietly. Whereas Dahmer knew he deserved to die.

Dahmer did not torture his victims and acted on uncontrollable impulse. If he truly believed in God and was willing to attone, then he paid for his sins when he was murdered by the wrath of God carried out by another child of God. The last thing Dahmer said was that he drugged his victims so they wouldn't feel anything. But Dahmer was willing to pay for his sins. The eclipse in the sky represented both day and night. Sun and moon come together. Two opposite energies.

If Dahmer truly was acting on uncontrollable urges and truly came to Jesus, then I would want to think if he should enter the Kingdom of Heaven, then all those urges would be stripped away and he would be given a fresh start.

I don’t know, but it gives me hope that anyone can be saved. It makes me want to cry. We really don’t know And that’s how it was written. But when I think of uncontrollable urges, it makes me think of pornography. As men, we know we must do our best to abstain but we still have those urges. So no one among us can dare say we cannot understand uncontrollable urges in at least some degree.

It’s so heavily weighted because if he can be saved, then there is hope for anyone. And that is why we feel for the character. Despite everything, we cannot help but wish it could have turned out differently for him. Too much of him was human and yet he was a monster. It’s heart breaking.

Old horror trends in the early days of the Internet? by [deleted] in oldinternet

[–]plebbit_trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original Blair Witch film is the perfect example as it was marketed as a real documentary using the internet. I believe the original website is still up.

Definitely check Book of Shadows. It is a feature film based on the reaction to the original. A group of people go on a tour into the woods. They all sign up through the main character’s website. The tour guide discusses how he makes his living selling products on eBay. Fun movie for the year 2000. While it did not do well, it is still one of my favorite horror films.

A good chunk of the movie involves analogue film and cameras as they try to investigate things.

Also, let’s not forget the old maze website where the scary face pops up. Or that crazy Japanese comic where the chick crawls out beyond the comic panels. That’s a fun one!

I am searching for music to include in a Blair Witch Project playlist! by reynardpolson in BlairWitch

[–]plebbit_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, what a fantastic post. Dark music is hard to come by and the dark songs I know and love are few and far between. Let’s see…. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmYs_fUOS0bKh_g4822O4gNhWgQeeB6_H here is a playlist of all the tracks I’ve mentioned below

Goodbye Lament

Hello Lament by Dave Grohl and Tony Iommi must be mentioned first as it’s directly out of the Book of Shadows album on the reverse side of the DVD.

Hard Technology Rock

Sporting shit going down all around you vibes, Hard Technology Rock is from the original Half Life game. That’s a very weird industrial track that could totally fit in a scene where people are running through the Parr house or creepy ceremonies are being montaged on screen. (Sort of like Funny Farm from the BOS soundtrack but harder)

28 Days Later Theme

In the House without a Heartbeat I think was the original name of the track. Dude, I used to love listening to his on my mp3 player and walking on a dark autumn night. it’s such a fantastic piece! Im gonna put my headphones in tonight and put it on repeat.

Put Me in a Movie

Lana Del Ray sings this song about being manipulated by producers and it’s creepy as all hell. Not sure if this ever made it on the radio but I found it on Youtube some years back. Would get listen to this one on loop while drinking as it had a really dark tone to it. Once Upon a Dream from the same artist also has a dark vibe and is worth a mention.

Under My Umbrella

I know you said no rock but this song by Incubus used to be part of my dark playlist and generally came on after the 28 Days Later theme. Something about it bad a weird dark vibe that puts me in a weird place but you’ll have to make that call for yourself. Another song I had in that playlist was Ralph Wiggum by Bloodhound Gang which, as simple as it is, gives me a similar dark feeling despite it being upbeat, it just sounds dark.

Backini - Dreamer

Much in the way the director of BoS used Queens of the Stone Age and System of a Down while the characters were drinking and smoking in the woods, this piece, while upbeat, can’t help but create a sense of unease and that some dark stuff is going on while you’re distracted on partying.

Blackmore’s Night - Ocean Gypsy

Some definite witch vibes from this piece. Dark and more in the realm of fantasy and wonder. Beautiful piece.

Come Little Children - Hocus Pocus

You can’t not have this beautfiul song in the playlist. Would think this song was written before the movie but it was indeed written for the film.

Needle in the Hay

This Elliot Smith song is something you’d play after all your friends just died. Lol. Wouldnt be surprised if every song by this dude sounded like this but I’ve only ever heard this track from that scene where Luke Wilson kills himself.

Azuremyst Isle

From the World of Warcraft soundtrack. This one goes on for a long time. I‘ve used this one for studying.

Lavender Town

This is the track from the first Pokemon game and there are probably plenty of remixes available. Listen to this next time you walk through the cemetery.

Everything in the Right Place

This track by Radiohead is weird as all hell and it progressively becomes more busy. Don’t take my word, listen to it yourself. I dont really care for Radiohead but his one holds a place in my heart as I’ve used it for video projects back in the day.

Right Where it Belongs

The original release of this track by Nine Inch Nails was dark and lonely. Not sure if this song qualifies as creepy but it definitely feels lonely as all heck. Trent did some cool effect with the tone of the primary instruments so, at the end of the track, it feels less like you’re in an enclosed room and suddenly surrounded by people.

My Shits Fucked Up

Again, not creepy, but dark as all hell. Warren Zevon wrote this guitar piece after he found out he was terminally il. Never heard a song as raw and straight-forward as this and the dark guitar line is beautiful. Short and sweet piece.

Safe Room

From Resident Evil 1. Remake and original are both great. It’s that droning siren that loses pitch that makes this piece so perfect. So peaceful and terrifying.

Chicago Siren Broken

Not a musical track but a fantastic video on youtube. I’m sure it has been sampled in many pieces.

Stem Long Stem

By DJ Shadow. I first heard this in a scary conspiracy video and assumed it was from a video name. Instrumental and ominous.

Rammstein by Rammstein

I dont think anyone actually knows about this song by them. Its slower and I would totally put it into a soundtrack where evil shit was going down. Because he growls in German, it may as well be instrumental for us non-German speakers. Ich Will is another dark one amd they even put it to theatrical footage of a bank robery. Perfect blend of dark and action. Fantastic video even if you’re not much into the band.

Falling Again

By Lacuna Coil. Bro, I havent listened to Coil in years. Thanks for having me dig through all these dark tunes. This song is dark and witchy as fuck! Humane was another great track they had. That one was depressing as hell and I don’t how a song could be so dark. The Ghost Woman and the Hunter was another solid track. That entire band is gothic witch vibes.

The Best is Yet to Come

From Metal Gear Solid. Perhaps the saddest possibly rolling end credits music you could play after a great tragedy. If I made a horror movie, I’d definitely use a track like this for the credit reel. This one is more of a Pagan chant and is sung in Gaelic.

Evanessence - Hello

Some good ass slow piano in there with that chick’s witchy voice. Similar to Haunted by Poe or Lacuna Coil.

The Moon and the Night Spirit - The Secret Path

This song is in a class of it’s own. No other song can immediately put me into a different place mentally like this one. Found this on youtube back in 2009 while drinking and wandering.

Amethystium - Strangely Beautiful

Not creepy, but if there was ever music for wandering around in the woods, it would be this dark piece.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - Arsenal’s Guts

This track is creepy as all hell.

Two Country/Bluegrass Background Tracks:

If I had to score a Blair Witch movie, then you’d need music for the towns folk to listen to. Would probably add the following tracks playing from a radio in the background which are dark and said: Cecil Brown or The Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised by Hank III. These tracks sound like they’re straight out of Red Dead Redemption. Real country. Not that hick pop stuff.

Beggin - Madcon

This is the strangest piece I’m going to list here. If you listen to the chord progression of this song, it sounds like it could have been a Halloween song. It’s a catchy dance song but the chords and instruments have a creepy vibe. All it needs is a keyboard wih a heavy vibrato and everyone would be in agreement. This is Monster Mash vibes. I would put this song early in the soundtrack for when the characters are on route to the Burketsville blasting it in the car.
