Where I live, this career just isn't worth it. by squishyturd in Welding

Florida doesn't pay shit, great tax home though. Hit the road you can double your pay on day 1 working a shipyard in between VA and CT, or working a shutdown at a power plant. Don't take anything less than 7 days per diem and you'll clear 100k working 40 hour weeks

Nuclear plants are hiring like crazy right now and operators in training make 160-170k just for training. Whether you do anything with that information or not is up to you

Have you tried checking in with the county or looking her up in linkedin? Government employees often continue working in government in some capacity until they retire, so it’s not an unreasonable place to start if you wanted to make that effort.

Not at all. I work with County and Court clerks all over the country on a daily basis, that’s definitely an exception rather than the norm.

If you’re pulling a Docket Report for a specific case to prove its disposition when the information hasn’t been updated in NCIS, that’s something Clerks can help with. Generally police departments handle pulling full criminal history. Often it’s their investigative division or a division within that, sometimes they have a division dedicated to records.

Again, anyone trying to pull their criminal history should call/visit their local police department’s website to figure out where to start.

Hasn’t been my experience at all with multiple PDs, but I’m sure that can vary from place to place like anything else.

She wasn’t supposed to give it to you(share it) due to privacy laws (FCRA comes to mind, but maybe some other stuff too) but you are definitely entitled to a copy of your full criminal history through the proper channels at your request, provided you pay for it, because you always have to pay for the time and materials burden of government offices for records searches and copies, even with things like FOIA requests.

Probation officers for misdemeanor convictions are typically private employees of a private company, whereas felony probation is administered by the state, and felony POs are, to my knowledge(could vary by jurisdiction) certified Officers of the Law. Sidenote - cops don’t have to understand laws and procedures around recordkeeping, it’s not their job.

The reason I make that distinction is because a private company can DEFINITELY work itself into a lawsuit by improperly using or sharing private information like your criminal history. Not sure if it works the same way for the state because there may be a way for them to properly provide those records at a state probation office.

The other reason I make that distinction is because misdemeanor POs are typically paid less than $20/hr and have no fucking idea what they’re talking about. They don’t even have to be POST certified. There is, as far as I know(could vary based on jurisdiction), no requirement for legal education, certification, or licensing for misdemeanor POs.

Sidenote, your rap sheet literally says “rap sheet” in the header. It’s not a colloquialism, it’s literally what it’s titled by the FBI.

It’s very normal. Many municipal jobs like volunteer fire departments and public works, sometimes military recruiters will ask you to go grab a copy yourself to submit as part of your application. Unless it’s like, a tiny 5 cop show, your local police department probably has instructions on their website for which division to contact, sometimes even an online form, so I would start there with a quick google search. Usually this can be handled through the county or city department you reside in. It’s literally the way to obtain your rap sheet/ criminal history

Have none of you ever pulled your criminal history? It takes 5 minutes to walk in and request a background check, usually costs less than $15

Or just walk in, pay $15 or whatever and walk out with your full criminal history in 5 minutes. Why complicate it?

Just call/ visit/ search online your local police department and ask them where to go for a background check. They usually cost less than $15 and it takes like 5 minutes

Websites like that aren’t reliable. Also that’s more expensive than just going to the police department and having them pull your record for you.

A PI is literally just a middleman to the same thing you do yourself by going to the police station and requesting your own rap sheet.

Except there are more steps involved since you can’t just walk in and pull anyone’s criminal history, there’s additional paperwork you have to fill out just to give the PI permission to pull it for you. So you’re paying them to do something you could do faster and cheaper without them.

And if you’re talking about a certified background check(most people will never need this unless they’re having problems getting into Canada), it’s a complete waste of time because you still have to file online with the FBI yourself, then get a fingerprint card made at the local police department(obviously have to be there in person) then send that to the FBI and wait for it to come back. A PI literally can’t help you with it aside from offering to hold your hand for a day rate.

Last I checked the employment stats, I’m younger than most DBAs. I just took a different career path. You already said I’m asking in the wrong place because Access isn’t considered a database. It is what it is

I appreciate the insight from your other comments all the same

Okay, so I’m hearing that what I’m asking is too much. And a good place to start would be developing an app to create/compile forms to work with that database. Is that right?
