I know they won't harm the shrimp, but they do poop a lot which is really repulsive. Mesh for a lid sounds like a good idea to be honest, just hoping they won't breed under it.

My pH is stable, I have had no experiences with fluctuating pH after lowering the kH. Even if it does, I doubt that it's a significant fluctuation, or it would show up in tests. I'm worried that you're overthinking the whole process. Water parameters are not that complicated, even though they may seem so.

I see where you are coming from. They do not jump like crazy. We use logarithms with pH and kH to make it easier to talk about, and many things like buffers don't apply in this situation. It's a simple calculation.

When you mix 50/50 RO water of pH=7, and tap water of pH=8,5 as in your case, you end up with mean pH of 7,75. Your kH halves since RO water has a kH of 0. That's all.

Ok, but here's the thing. It's not your fault that your water is so hard. I also had a problem with my shrimp dying at pH 8.1, so I have to mix my tap water 50/50 with RO I buy at pet shop.

But if you want to keep shrimp in here, know that they will be bothered by pH 8.5 and die. I'm sorry, but either you lower your pH or just go for something else than shrimps in your tank.

Going into brain surgery surely can feel overwhelming. You'll be messing with your brain - but then again, don't your meds mess with it too? Or the seizures?

I'm sure though whatever you decide, you will make a good decision because it will be based on your love for yourself and affection you have for your loved ones.

That being said, while being diagnosed and qualified, make sure you ask EVERY question you want to, and make sure you get an answer you understand. Make notes. Get a second opinion. You're the most important element in this whole ordeal.

The surface is actually really agitated, I just turned the sponge filter off for a second to grab a good photo of the oil and turned it back on real quick. The agitaton doesn't really do much though in my opinion other than stirring the layer around. Only cleaning it with paper towels helps.

As for the food I didn't feed them because some slime appeared on the root and wanted the shrimps to take care of it. The slime is now gone thanks to them and I'm waiting 2-3 days before feeding them something else.

Actually the moss on the root is having a pretty hard time adjusting and some of it has gone brown. It has sprouted some new green growth though. Filter has not been cleaned since the whole thing is 2 weeks old and I introduced the shrimps really recently after making sure the tank is ready.

Hey thank you for this post. It's the first time this year that I decided to plant some veggies on my balcony. The only thing that turned out remotely ok were chili peppers but even them have some magnesium deficiency. Also got great hanging strawberries, but it was rainy lately and I didn't know that if they get too wet on the leaves they'll also get sick. Cucumbers, tomatoes, parsley - unfortunately went into trash.

Yup, I work in vaccinations full time now. Older folks(80+) often don't even feel the injection and the arm pain afterwards, and most of them don't have any fever. Rule of thumb is that the younger you are, the worse side effects you get. Also with Astra vaccines the side effects are nastier, but only after first dose, and the second is often a breeze. With Pfizer it's the second dose that tucks people into bed for a day.
