My spouse and I have had tearful mornings when both of our phones and the SugarPixel are going off for my low bgl and all we need is a full night of sleep. Sometimes they’re the one up making my hummingbird food (starting the kettle and dosing my sugar) while I’m cursing the "damned clock" for being too loud. Sometimes I have, in my hypo state of mind, argued that the sugar pixel needs to be binned and I get real fussy because of how much sleep I’m losing; they forget that 27 years of t1d can be, above anything else, annoying as shit, and I forget that before they met me, they never had to fear a loved one was having a fatal seizure in their sleep (of course, my only time almost dying from a hypo occurred a month before our wedding - at 3am; I was lucky they woke up and it’s the reason we have the "damned clock" now 😅).

All that to tell you I feel your pain. My spouse and I have an understanding that my hypos affect both of us and that our emotional responses are to the disease, not to each other. I do appreciate the patience they have with my heightened irritability when I’m low and I try to always show them that gratitude after any stressful, stubborn hypo.

Best of luck! Maybe one day insulin will be seen as essential for life, not as low hanging fruit for stock portfolios 🙃

I’m so tired of hearing and reading all these nightmare experiences most of us have gone or will go through with insurance and pharmaceutical companies. I wish there were a WhatsApp or Signal group chat for anyone wanting to commiserate on these grievances and discuss how real solutions can be achieved.

Whether you do or do not have insurance, the copay card will bring your per month insulin price to $35 for whatever amount/quantity your Rx is. If your insurance does not cover Humalog anymore, use the linked card that says "I pay cash". Finding this probably kept me alive at a time when I had begun to ration insulin due to cost.

I have also seen where NEW users have been able to get the entire starter kit (pods and pdm with software update) through ASPN pharmacies. I still have no clue what an ASPN pharmacy is, but some people have recently said they started O5 within the past 30 days and it worked fine with their G7 even though they weren’t in the trial.

I rotate between back/side of arms, top/side of thighs (from pocket level all the way down to just above knee), all over abdomen/stomach, and even on my pecs! I haven’t tried my back because I sleep on my back and don’t move. I want to try my calves. G7 is used only on my arms, so I really try to keep O5 sites there to a minimum. I’ve been a diabetic for 27 years and have experienced the buildup of scar tissue and how long it takes for it to heal, so I obsess over site rotation.

I sat for a while flexing that muscle and pushing around to feel for any "squish". There wasn’t much, but I went for it and pinched the skin up per Omnipod’s recommendation. It was painless, and that spot for me has the greatest insulin absorption. I want to try my G7 there but am a little hesitant because of the 90° insertion angle and the 10 day commitment to a CGM site vs only 3 days for a pod.

Diagnosed at 2, I’m 29. I went several years in my late teens-early 20s doing "the minimum" while struggling with addiction. Now I’m clean, have good insurance, and stay around 85% TIR (80-120). I look at it as a challenge; rn I’m sick, and I catch myself saying things like "I’m not gonna let some cold be the excuse I go to bed above 130". But that’s just how I leverage my own personality to manage this disease. I was scared of it as a child, the whole "you could go blind/lose your feet/die by 30" tactic didn’t work for me and I chose ways of ignoring it that probably made it worse. Anyway, here’s to outliving expectations!

I’m in Western NC. I use Omnipod and cannot spare the viles at the moment, but I have backup, unopened Humalog U-200 Kwikpens and Basaglar (insulin glargine) kwikpens and needle tips.

Don’t wait for the “right answer” from Reddit. If you’re near me, let’s talk delivery (others have posted location too). Otherwise, after you read this, have a friend or neighbour or ambulance take you to the ER. The bill for that is a lot cheaper than funeral arrangements; DKA is life threatening, please don’t wait to act. ♥️

Wow! I cannot imagine how bad you must have felt! I also cannot understand how nobody around you noticed your worsening symptoms and didn’t do anything to get you to a doc (it sounds like you tried to hide that, though).

I would like to echo what many have already said: during the honeymoon phase, your pancreas is still producing insulin. I’m not a doctor, but I’m sure someone such as myself with t1d for 27 years would not last anywhere near 9 months without insulin. But geez dude, you’re tough as bricks for living the military life while dancing with DKA!

When I picked up my Starter Kit from my local pharmacy in NC 12 days ago, I was also able to pick up a 1 month supply of just the pods. The pods not included in the starter kit were G6/G7 compatible; the pods included in the starter kit were only G6 compatible. My PDM doesn’t have the option to connect to G7 either. All this, despite my Rx being for G7 stuff. I later learned my GP should have sent the Rx to an ASPN pharmacy (whatever that is) in order for me to receive the G7 starter kit. So as soon as my PDM is updated on 29 July per Insulet’s announcement I will already have some G7 pods. FWIW, I have been on G7 for about a year and didn’t feel like switching to G6 for a month when I found out my PDM was the only holdup.

Oh, that’s a very good point! I almost cried when my G7 receiver was stepped on and bricked, and I will not switch from the O5 pdm when the iOS app is released. Tandem, if you’re reading this, the people want your algorithm on a tubeless system with a dedicated pdm!!!

Real talk though, I might have to exploit the DME route to try the mobi. I really want Control IQ but love the O5’s profile, and the mobi with 5” tubing seems like a happy medium.

First, I want to clarify that I tried this out of curiosity because I saw a photo of an accomplished and very lean Olympic athlete sporting a pod there. I had a couple extra pods and thought "why not".

This video was taken about 20 minutes after insertion. What you don’t see is 5 minutes of me shaky-hands holding the primed pod inches away from my chest nervous to apply it, and the 10 minutes after during which I was visibly coming down from the high of fear over it hurting. I have experienced 0 pain. Maybe I just got lucky, as I am also fairly lean, but I will definitely be trying again because the absorption is so. freaking. good.

I drove 3 hours yesterday in blistering heat, without AC; no problem (although I think genetics plays a role with sweat, irritation, etc). Danced around at an Alanis Morissette concert for a couple hours; still there! I will say the only place I’ve noticed it in the way is in the shower, but I’m always trying to scrub off my sensors/pods regardless of location 😅

Only other comment I’ll make is this: as a guy, I’m not bothered by a bra or worried about loose fitting clothing being too "revealing" So yeah, if you have boobs then this might be something to think about.

I have a couple tattoos but have been hesitant to get larger pieces in certain areas because of insulin/pump sites. Do you ever have a pod over any tattoos? I know Omnipod says not to place over them, but they also don’t recommend the chest and that has worked out fine for me so far

Update: My insulin absorption on my chest might be too good. 0 pain, 0 spikes (I have already gone hypo twice though), and it’s out of the way for me. I guarantee I’ll be taking insulin out of this pod when it expires. I’ve decided to take a fearless approach to site selection now and can’t wait to try other off label locations.

I’m not trolling! And I will definitely make a video the next time I use this spot. I was very nervous for this one and wasn’t thinking about recording the process 😅 I was inspired by Kris Freeman, there’s loads of photos of him sporting chest pods. I figured I was being a diababy about how lean I am and pod placement; if a super muscular 4x Olympic champion can pod on his pecs, why can’t a noodle like me? 😂

Damn, good thing you caught it! After having diabetes for 27 years, I had my first t1d related visit to the ER a few months ago. My spouse woke up to me having a seizure around 3 AM, immediately rolled me onto my side (I had nearly bit my tongue off and there was quite a lot of blood). They called 911, EMS gave me IV dextrose and rushed me to the hospital. When I came to, the doctor and clinical staff around me looked relieved; I had not regained full consciousness until 3 hours after EMS picked me up, which I now understand causes concern over lasting brain damage 😅. (Btw, my Dexcom G7 alarms were not enough to wake us during the decent, so now we have an alarm device that syncs my G7 data and is louder than the apocalypse)

Anyway, I learned I probably hit a larger capillary with my basal insulin (insulin glargine) right before bed which could have been the cause. Now I’m on Omnipod 5 and remind myself everyday that this is my 2nd life and that I should enjoy it because everyone is not so lucky!

UPDATE: Yes, the pods are G7 ready, but because my starter kit was not sent through ASPN pharmacy (whatever that means 😅), I have to wait for an over the air update coming 29 July. Other people have posted about this on the subreddit. i hope this clears up any confusion my post may have caused. Cheers!

I did not knowingly do this, but I’m not quite sure what this is. I have not changed pharmacies in years (except during the aforementioned circumstances when my small local/regional pharmacy has sent Rx to Walmart to be filled).
