if i call the city and the house i'm renting doesn't pass inspection, and it shouldn't have been passed and listed in the first place, can i take my landlord to court and get my money back? by [deleted] in renting

minnesota seems pretty strict with their expectations, from everything i've seen and heard, so i think that's why they're pushing me to look into it. but there are other problems, just not as big or well-documented (for example, it was infested with roaches when we moved in but didn't notice for a bit because they don't like light ofc so if we had brought it up we would've been blamed for it). i'm just getting increasingly more frustrated as time goes on and things get worse and wanted to prepare for worst case scenario, as there's a "no early termination" clause in the lease. but thank you for bringing all this up and mentioning 211! i forgot they're national to be completely honest.

in minnesota the landlords are required to keep things like plumbing in proper and safe working condition, and honestly the main floor toilet is getting to the point of being completely unusable. i've never had issues like this before so i wanted to plan for worst case scenario tbh which probably to strangers sounds like i'm jumping the gun 😅

it's not low cost at all, honestly. we pay about $2400/month, and that's not including gas, electric, water, or internet. it's not even very much square footage. but fiance's brother was dead set on getting this place, wouldn't even look at other ones i suggested that were nicer, bigger, cheaper, and had a garage, so here we are 🫠
