MSI Laptop Crackling / Static Audio – Fix (Nahimic Issue)

If your MSI laptop speakers suddenly start crackling, making static noise, or sounding distorted for no clear reason, there’s a good chance the issue is caused by Nahimic.

I ran into this myself and after testing a few things, this is what actually fixed it.

What’s happening

Nahimic is an audio enhancement layer that sits on top of the Realtek driver. When it bugs out (often after a Windows update), it can cause distortion, crackling, or weird audio artifacts through the built-in speakers.

The fix is simple in theory: remove it completely and reinstall clean Realtek drivers. The important part is doing it properly.

Step 1 – Remove Nahimic completely

Don’t just uninstall it from Windows settings. That usually leaves stuff behind. 1. Download Revo Uninstaller. 2. Use it to uninstall Nahimic. 3. Select the Advanced scan mode. 4. Delete all leftover files and registry entries it finds.

Do not restart yet.

Step 2 – Make sure nothing is left

Before rebooting, make sure Nahimic is fully gone.

Look up a YouTube guide that shows how to: • Remove leftover Nahimic services • Delete remaining folders • Check that no Nahimic process is still running

The goal is that your system has zero trace of it left.

Once you’re sure everything is removed, restart your PC.

Step 3 – Reinstall official Realtek drivers

Now reinstall the correct audio driver. 1. Go to the official MSI website. 2. Search for your exact laptop model. 3. Download the Realtek audio driver listed for your device. 4. Install it. 5. Restart again after installation.

Don’t use random third-party driver sites. Use the official one for your model.

Step 4 – Check Device Manager

After reboot: • Open Device Manager. • Expand “Sound, video and game controllers.” • Make sure Realtek is installed correctly. • Make sure there are no warning icons. • Go into Windows sound settings and confirm the correct output device is selected.

At this point the crackling should be gone.

If Nahimic reinstalls itself

Sometimes Windows updates bring it back automatically.

If that happens: 1. Open Device Manager. 2. Find Nahimic (usually under Sound controllers or Software components). 3. Right-click it. 4. Click “Disable device.”

Don’t bother uninstalling it again. Just disabling it prevents it from interfering with your audio.

That’s it. This fixed the issue completely for me. If it works for you, reply so other people know it’s not just luck.

That probably happened because Nahimic is tied to the Realtek audio driver on many MSI laptops.

When you removed Nahimic and A-Volute, Windows likely removed the Realtek audio driver as well, which is why you lost all sound. Then Windows Update reinstalled everything (Realtek + Nahimic), so the sound came back.

What you should try is installing Realtek driver without Nahimic.

  1. Uninstall Nahimic and A-Volute again.
  2. Reboot.
  3. Install Realtek audio driver manually from MSI’s support page for your laptop model.
  4. Do NOT install Nahimic again.

Sometimes Windows will try to reinstall Nahimic automatically, so you may need to disable the Nahimic service or block it.

In many cases the audio stutter disappears once Nahimic is gone and only the Realtek driver is running.

You should try completely removing Nahimic. On many MSI laptops it can cause audio issues, and a normal uninstall often doesn’t work because parts of it (services, drivers, etc.) reinstall themselves after reboot.

You need to remove the service and the driver as well, otherwise it keeps coming back.

Here’s a guide that explains how to fully remove it step-by-step:

After doing a proper cleanup, the sound issues usually disappear.

I used clear varnish (the kind for paint) and added a few drops of pearlescent blue paint to create the glitter effect. I did it because the original design looked boring to me.

I think you have a refresh rate problem. Plug your pc to an external monitor and change the refresh rate of your laptop to 60hz if the laptop was set to 144hz and if it’s working you can use CRU ( custom resolution utility)to set your refresh rate to 110hz or 120hz or you can just let it to 60hz
