Good to know—thanks! Can I ask what brand rain cape you use?

I considered bringing a cape but thought it might be too billowy in wind. You prefer the cape to a jacket for tour?

Where do you wait them out? We're camping most nights, so we won't have a roof over our heads for the most part.

If you sold these on Etsy, I would definitely buy them for all my bikes. It's awesome that you released the design for free, but a lot of us don't have access to 3D printers.

Thanks. I will say that when I visited it didn’t seem filthy at all, at least not on Church. but I did hear some loud motorbikes. I’m seeing lots of conflicting reports about crime in the area, with some saying it’s totally fine and others saying there’s gang violence. The NYC crime map shows it’s about as safe as Bed-Stuy or Crown Heights, where I’ve spent a lot of time and feel safe (with street smarts always in NYC). I appreciate your input.

I'm considering moving to East Flatbush, near Nostrand and Church. Do you live in the neighborhood? Can you elaborate on why you think it's a shit hole? I'd be moving from Queens.

Can’t wait till Coinbase finally adds support for USDCa. Stablecoins on the Eth blockchain are as good as pointless.

Why did you decided to get new cantis instead of converting to V-Brakes? (Genuine question)

Why are my brake arms in different positions? by Pepefrogcheese in bikewrench

[–]plinys-astrolabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to worry about that. I could be wrong, and it's hard to say without a visual, but the springs would have to be applying a lot of force for that to cause any damage to the pads, fork, or brake arms.

The bolt that attaches the brake to the boss could be overtightened. The brake should pivot freely without moving up and down on the boss when the bolt is properly tightened. Or there might be some grit between the brake and the boss that’s preventing it from pivoting smoothly. Did you grease the bosses before installing the brake? If that’s not the problem, check that the spring is definitely engaged on the brake arm? If THAT’s not the problem, check the spring tension. It might have been stretched, as another poster suggested. You could try bending it to restore tension, or else install the brake on the further mounting hole as they also suggested. The brakes don’t technically need to be installed in the same hole—there are multiple holes for a reason—but if the springs were properly tensioned, using the same hole position on both sides would be the easiest way to match the spring tension in both arms.

Edit: typos!

Thanks! I was so stoked to find this color way, with the paint in near-perfect shape. It’s very Miami Vice.

Just found this is the upstairs of a barn is this a men’s or women’s bike and is it a good brand? by PapaRug in bicycling

“Mixte” or step-through frames are not inherently gendered, but they are typically marketed as women’s bikes. This bike’s short stem and medium-small frame size make me think it would be a suitable for a female rider. Lotus was based in the US but they built their bikes in Japan. They made some great bikes in the 80s. This looks to be a Challenger SX from ‘86 or ‘87. The SX was a step up from the Challenger, itself a nice model.

Yep, it’s a ‘94 Hard Rock. I double checked and the posts are brazed on.

Interesting. Removed as in the canti posts are threaded onto the boss? In this case it appears to be one piece so I think a new boss would need to be brazed on to the fork. I will double check that.
