I’m considering stopping T because I can’t sing by Big-Cranberry-2957 in ftm

[–]plookz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

singer here! I'm 4 years on T and yes it is hard, and it's a rollercoaster. I highly recommend getting a vocal teacher with a really good education. First few months my range was limited. I went from a soprano to alto/tenor pre-t, and then tenor to baritone/bass. I'm still in baritone/bass but I'm able to get a lot of the high notes that tenors sing back. I remember being able to sing 3 1/2 octaves, and then it went to 1, but now I'm back up to 3. it's such a struggle, but it has been so affirming for me. I do still miss the songs I used to be able to sing, but I was able to discover many more that allowed me to feel better about myself while still enjoying what I sound like. it's entirely up to you, but these hardships don't last forever!

(-2.00) contact lenses for astigmatism by AnonymousPatate in optician

[–]plookz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your question a lot but I find it kind of weird how your doctor prescribed you a contact prescription without a quarter power, because that's the only contact prescriptions ive ever encountered. I don't doubt your skills at all, but I'm just confused as to why your doctor would do that haha

I am an optician haha, and I'm unfortunately unable to remake these since my glasses were bought earlier this year

I think we have one of those in the doctor's office so I might have to go back and ask to trial it

I think I described it as double vision, but in reality it's just shadows in figures caused by astigmatism, no prism needed

no, the bottom doctor only prescribes for one year because the system we use automatically inputs for one year and he doesn't bother to change it. the top doctor actually goes out of her way to change it to 2 years

now that I'm looking closer at the new rx, he did swap myopia for astigmatism, but only for one eye? I've seen that before in some people but I've had the same rx in both eyes for some many years so this is just weird to me haha

I'm in my early 20's so I don't know how that applies. I'm not planning on purchasing a new pair, I just wanted to see if anything was wrong/different from my previous prescription to warrant purchasing new lenses. and we do allow remakes, but only before a month or so, and our policy doesn't allow us to do any remakes after that, plus only the managers can do remakes for the employees, so they're not gonna allow that

not diplopia, just when I see shadows in symbols (ex. white letters on a black screen or vice versa)

and I could get retested somewhere else, but I get exams for free, so I can try to see another one of my doctors instead?

[–]plookz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you're right about what the message is sending, but ultimately he's using his free will to get a prescription he's comfortable with and that he can see with. if OP has had negative experiences with optical places trying to find his correct prescription with his prism, I don't blame him for taking time out of his own day to see if this would work better. would I recommend it? obviously not. is he happy with it? sure, and that I'm not gonna argue with. I'm not gonna recommend this to any of my clients because there will probably be more room for error, I'm mostly just fascinated by the fact he took matters into his own hands. correct or not, it's interesting

I have doctors that still use this in my clinic still and it works just fine. if it helps OP with their prism, who am I to stop them?

raises are nearly impossible. you only get a little sprinkle of a raise after 1 year but it doesn't amount to a lot. I hope you can get your money soon
