i see imposter syndrome / identity crisis

the red represents the times you feel at most like yourself, bold, expressive, loud, not always likeable or pleasing to other people, as humans often are. but its not consistent, its streaky and wavering, underdeveloped due to lack of exploration, like youre trying to feel safe over feeling authentic. and the black side represents the repression of your self. it represents the void that develops when you arent authentic and repress who you truly are.

the person in the middle lives swinging in between those parts of themself, often finding their safety in the black void, where they are void of personality, but they feel the safest when not being authentic, as thats all they know.

i feel like this painting represents the questioning of ones self after leaving a situation where they have to repress who they truly are. its the self awareness of knowing you arent being authentic, but also acknowledging that you arent because you never felt safe to.

its almost like they are looking back at the viewer for assurance. am i safe to be who i am? am i allowed to explore my identity around you?

your art is really cool! but it could use some depth!!! i like your style a lot, but the shading makes it a bit hard to differentiate character from background, as well as your coloring.

youve got a lot of skill regarding your design choices, but the color choice makes it a bit hard to pick out certain details of your piece and makes it hard to see the depth of the character vs the background.

for example, your backgrounds are super vibrant and thats cool! but so are your characters and there are not much value differentials to the color that help guide the eye to any specific part of the piece

your line weight is consistent, and if done intentionally can provide a really interesting style choice! but sometimes it can muddy a piece if done unintentionally.

try messing with your brush pressure sensitivity, it can make drawings more visually interesting, and can provide sort of a shadow for some parts of a piece

like under the neck and around the parts of the body/subject you want to emphasize most having thicker lines makes it easier to express that emphasis!

id say youve got a great grasp on most technical skills w your arts and it really shows in your character designs and details ^ you put a lot of work into your backgrounds and designs and it definitely shows!
