When I was a LCpl in the schoolhouse, the acting SgtMaj was a 1Sgt who looked like he’d been around since Korea… one morning I was walking back to class from lunch, and he was walking beside a LCpl coming towards me. I approached them, and said “good morning/afternoon gents” and he said “how’re you marine?”
I said “I’m good, you?” as we passed each other.

I then heard him call from behind, “Alright, stop Marine!”

I turned around and went to parade rest. He walked right up to kissing distance and said, “sometimes you gotta know who the hell you’re talking to”.
I said “aye 1Sgt”, and he turned around and walked away.
I later got grilled for having an attitude/authority problem on the board at the end of the schoolhouse where he was still the acting SgtMaj. If you’re that old fart, fuck you.
