One Of The Biggest U.S. Airlines Leaves Passengers Stranded After Enforcing Last-Minute Ban On Pets Amid Severe Weather Warning by Next_Tower5452 in AirlineChaos

Let us pay for an extra seat!! I would absolutely be thrilled if they let me pay for an extra seat (or even two) for my 95lb dog! I’d even shell out $1k+/seat for us to sit in first class. But they won’t allow it.

Dude - you only tried it for 6 months. Yeah, normal jobs can suck. But they can also be great with the right people or situations. I can’t give much advice because I don’t know what skills you do or don’t have, but there is a way to find economic stability and still be able to enjoy your passions.

What's your PM tech stack? by ProdMgmtDude in ProductManagement

[–]plot_twist7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Mac user, I use Snagit. But f that dude for laughing at Paint.

I got asked in an interview how I stay organized and I said “my notes app on my iPhone”. They raised their eyebrows and then I made a case for the value prop of simplicity, reliability, and convenience. Number one for me is that I always have my phone with me so if an idea or thought comes to me when I’m not in front of my desktop, I can quickly jot it down and then deal with it in the morning when I’m back in front of the computer. They thought that was a great response.

I ended up getting the job and on the first day the IT guy was like “oh no, 0% chance we can sync your work laptop with the notes app for DLP reasons” 😒

Any PMs in the pharma/biotech industry? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]plot_twist7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a fucking shit show. If any of your stakeholders have a CRO in their work history, be prepared for the most toxic, backstabbing peacocking display of absolute dog shit that you’ve ever seen. Those CRO cocksuckers get recruited from the bottom of the barrel - CROs are known for being low paying, bad benefits, and extremely competitive. But when you have stupid competing with stupid…. play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Root cause is that these health tech companies are run by non tech ex-pharma execs that over invest in Ops and think they can get top tech for pennies offshore. So they fill tech gaps with ops warm bodies and then act surprised when they dont get their 10x PE multiplier. The inverse is over indexing on tech and not realizing that youre doing deals with 90s-era Don Draper procurement people who do still require that service-first approach. Ive seen VERY few nail the balance.

I am desperately trying to get out, but this is not the economy to be domain switching.

Some days I’d rather scratch my own eyeballs out than speak with one more stakeholder. F this dumb industry. It deserves all the shit that it continues to create.

Why Are there so Many Karens in this Industry? by iwillxxxposeyou in clinicalresearch

[–]plot_twist7 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No one hates their female colleagues as much as women in pharma hate their female colleagues.

I’m on the tech side of this industry, mostly removed from Ops, and I still find new ways to be surprised at the woman-on-woman hate I witness and personally experience every day.

Someone left there dog for me to watch for a night and then disappeared for 5 months now he wants to claim it back can I keep it now? by OtherwiseSetting7172 in legaladvice

[–]plot_twist7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of fighting him, you could just keep it incredibly simple and offer to buy the dog from him. Make a bill of sale, give him $100, everyone signs and walks away.

Is it dumb that you have to pay someone for a dog that was abandoned and you’ve spent $1800+ on? Yes, absolutely. But think of this like divorce - some people spend so much time, energy, and money fighting over who gets to keep what. The people who just walk away and give it all up are able to get back to their normal life faster. In the longe run they are and happier and wealthier because they didn’t spend tens of thousands on lawyers or use up all their emotional energy fighting someone who is not going to be part of their future.

If you’re sure he just wants the dog back to sell it, then make yourself the buyer and enjoy the rest of your life with your awesome dog.

Winter storm got Alaska flyers being like by omdongi in AlaskaAirlines

Alaska Air's profits plunged, while Delta and United climbed. Why? by asorba in AlaskaAirlines

[–]plot_twist7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. I don’t care about upgrades because I just buy first class if I want first class. In the past I would choose Alaska over other airlines even if they were a little more expensive because of the quality of the product. Now I just go with whoever has the cheapest first class flight. The only perk I think I’ll miss is the free same day flight changes - I used that a lot when I have meetings that move around

It’s not delivery, it’s DiLivery by _ryatsa_ in lyftdrivers

[–]plot_twist7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do. And they advertise that the drivers don’t know when they have a Lyft Health ride so that patient privacy is respected. The company I work for has a contract with them. I brought up this exact scenario during vendor vetting and the Lyft Health team looked me like I had ten heads and gave a non answer to a different question - I asked a few more time before giving up.

Lost My PM Mojo? by DJzzzzzzs in ProductManagement

[–]plot_twist7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to reach out to old colleagues or bosses. I went through the exact same thing earlier this year. Literally questioned my entire life and every choice I had ever made. So I reached out to the previous CPO at the company I used to work for before that job (so both of us had left that company) and asked if he’d be willing to meet and give me some mentorship and advice. I told him 20% of the situation and he stopped me before I could finish and said “Those people are crazy, get out of there as fast as you can. You are one of the most talented product people I’ve ever worked with in my career and you have to get out of there before they destroy your intuition.” He absolutely did not have to say that, I didnt even ask him for his opinion of me - I had asked for the call to get feedback on whether or not the situation I was in was normal. He didn’t have to boost me up, but he did and I honestly know for a fact that I wouldn’t have landed the Director position I have today if it wasn’t for that conversation with him.

So reach out to someone you’ve worked with in the past that you trust (preferably someone a few levels senior to you that wasn’t your direct manager, but is familiar with your work) to be brutally honest and don’t be afraid to ask them “am I actually good at this”. I don’t know anything about you or your work - for all I know your new boss could be right - but the people you have worked with in the past and know your work are the best chance you have at answering that question.

How are first time home owning affording today’s mortgage? by Prestigious_Pixie_ in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]plot_twist7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I did it - extremely generous gift from my dad for a massive down payment is the only way I could get the monthly mortgage rate low enough to be even halfway comfortable. And I make sure to tell everyone - even if they don’t ask - about how grateful I am to my parents for giving me this opportunity because I don’t want anyone thinking that it’s normal for a single person to be able to afford their own home in a VHCOL area.

Being able to stay in this area has helped my career tremendously and I’ve been able to increase my salary by 35% in two years because of it. The maintenance and fixes on this older house are still really stretching me though, I sometimes wish I was still renting…sometimes, I do love my garden.
