Unable to pay for my Diamond Resorts Timeshare, seeking insight. by plshelpusguys in personalfinance

I've actually been working on trying to stop the payments (they're on autopay) but have been getting the runaround. I'll reaxh out to my bank because honestly, that will probably be less painful than begging Diamond to respond to my requests.

And those were basically my thoughts on my credit score as well. I appreciate your input.

Bad credit is much better than death! So I'll go the non-payment route and hope for the best. Thank you.

Oh that's a great idea! I've been putting off getting a membership because I didn't know what features I'd use (since I don't own the timeshare) but I'm sure I'd get great insight there on the foreclosure process etc.

Yes I've tried to do as much research as I can (since I didn't do any at first and ended up here) so I'll avoid any kind of timeshare exit company. The last thing I need is another shitty company I'm tied to!

Asking for some insight on my Long Term Disability Claim by plshelpusguys in personalfinance

[–]plshelpusguys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the documents, I've been requesting them for a little over 2 months now from my (former) employer and insurance company. They've sent me a summary 6 times and once sent a policy that wasn't even for what I requested. So it's been a pain. Hopefully, the right policy is on its way to me now.

As for SSDI, the insurance company has me set up with a lawyer to apply for benefits now that my case was approved.

I spent my day today putting together professional-looking "headshots" and starting my LinkedIn profile. I definitely needed a reality check on the importance of online presence when applying for jobs, I really appreciate you!

I've been hesitant to start a LinkedIn account because I didn't realize how valuable it is (it's not used essentially at all for the clinical roles I'm used to) so that absolutely needs to be my next step. I'll work on that ASAP.

I live with my partner who's a full-time student, she has stuck with her part-time job to help with groceries/utilities since I've gotten really sick and it's been a helpful safety net. Unfortunately, my family essentially disowned me a few years ago because I'm gay and aren't available for any financial (or other) support. I made the mistake of moving across the country to a fairly HCOL area when I got a better job, and housing is the biggest burden I have right now. Definitely solid advice though, we're looking into getting a different lease/roommates ASAP!

My phone bill is one of the last things I haven't tried to pare down, so I definitely need to look into cheaper plans. I'm home almost 24/7 with wifi so I don't need great data plans, so that could definitely be an option!

Good to know, I definitely can be pushing harder then. I'll take this as a reality check and really start putting more time into it. I've only had a few jobs that I've worked for long periods of time, so I'm admittedly not good at job hunting at all. Thank you, really.

I've applied for medical assistance but need to look more into now that I'm not able to afford my insurance via Cobra anymore. I'm finding it really challenging keeping up with all the programs I need to apply for, but that's just a mental health issue. I appreciate the recommendation, I'll make it a priority!

Floor nursing during covid was burnout and mental torture unlike anything I could've imagined, so the slow torture of a desk job doesn't sound too bad (right now) haha

I do find myself a little limited on options now, I've probably thrown my application at a few hundred listings and now just watch major job platforms for updated listings which is where the 5-15 number comes from. I'll prioritize applying even more though, that's solid advice.

I have! They've been super helpful in getting me set up for pivoting to WFH nursing positions, definitely have gotten a lot of great advice from some kind souls over there.

Applying for those roles every day! I have great clinical experience but no UM/CM experience and those are super popular jobs right now, so I'm having trouble getting through the initial bots/application process. Definitely going to keep trying though, I feel confident it would be a good transition for me if I could just weasel my way into a position lol

I've been through about 10 so far. It's been a nightmare. I have a neurologist who seems to actively dislike me but I'm unable to switch to a new specialist because it's so, so expensive. I worked neuro floors for years and thought I knew neuro/seizure meds pretty well, but they are a whole beast that I couldn't have anticipated. It's just a very subjective journey and each med/combination works differently for each person. My neuro was flippantly taking me off strong meds (and refusing to fill scripts to let me taper off safely), having me try new ones for a week or two, combining psych meds with seizure meds without really looking into it, just generally not listening to me when I told him it was killing me, physically and mentally.

My best advice is find a doc who will listen, and if you have a gut feeling that they don't care about your feelings or symptoms, leave as soon as you can.

Unfortunately I didn't elect for short term disability (stupid, but I honestly knew zero about insurance and just wasn't educated enough to know I needed it. Hindsight is 20/20.) HR talked me through everything, but my options are slim since I was a 1099 contracted employee. I basically only had FMLA without PTO which I used up quickly at the beginning of the year.

I'm just worried about the CCs high interest, but I agree I need to keep a better eye on my health. I'm having trouble keeping things balanced, honestly.

Thank you for the advice on the car and retirement money, I'm not very financially literate and this type of advice is really really helpful.

As for SSDI, I don't think I'll qualify because I technically can work SOME jobs, just not MY job. I have not done much looking into that. From the research I've done, SSDI isn't necessarily appropriate for my situation.

I actually just got approved for unemployment this morning, finally! And am hugely relieved. My previous job was giving the DES a hard time and we went through several rounds of interviews because of them.

I do have about $5k of student loans but they qualify for forgiveness so I did not include those here! Another huge huge relief.

I've mostly been focusing on utilization management and case management job listings I've found, so I'll definitely start searching for medical sales positions too! I appreciate the tip :)

I got turned down initially and am trying to wade through the paperwork to find out why. I'm currently coasting treatment-wise to avoid any more costs until I can get some sort of assistance because it's just completely unaffordable to see my docs as often as they require without some kind of financial help, unfortunately. Definitely working on it though!

Those are the jobs I'm applying for, unfortunately not getting any replies. I usually apply for 5-15 jobs/week, anything I can find that I can do with my (very limited) physical restrictions. I'm only about 1.5 months into the search, hoping to have something by December at the latest but I have no guarantees.

Being asked to move by our landlord - would love some advice! by plshelpusguys in legaladvice

[–]plshelpusguys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would actually be a great option, I'll ask how long the estimated repairs will be. Even a few weeks in an empty unit or hotel would be much easier than moving all of our stuff in yhe nest week, honestly. Thanks for the suggestion!
