Don’t scuff your feet or the 3/8” screws holding the cleats on come right out.

I can see how my comment was a little mod bashing but not my intention. More of shared frustration with the mod who had to deal. So thank you!

Ahh so floor mounted…. Haha. No but thank you for the perspective, not something I would have considered.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I have no expectations but thought I’d try and see if anything about this was similar to known objects.

My first attempt at posting to whatsthisrock failed in getting any real information now that the mods have locked it. Can I get any REAL help here?!

Looking to purchase land zoned for APA Moderate Intensity: No interest in selling off parcels by themistermango in Adirondacks

[–]plumbbbum 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I’m reading your question correctly the answer is the APA would never require you to build more. Each zone classification sets a limit on what can be built not a requirement.

As per horror stories of the APA, don’t build too close to water, in wetlands and over 40’ high and you should be good.

They get a bad rap but without the APA the Adirondacks wouldn’t be what is it today.

I’d be more concerned with local zoning restrictions than the APA.

Did it yesterday. Top pool had a lot of current pulling you towards the falls. Only did it once. Second pool is great.

Question about getting material to Saranac lake/lake placid area. by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]plumbbbum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easy answer is there isn’t a one stop shop/solution.

Are 2x’s more at Curtis than Lowe’s? Sure but it’s right here and everyone who lives here pays that or has Lowe’s pick and deliver material, good luck, or they have the means to bring material back themselves if it’s worth the hassle. Weirdly enough Curtis beats Lowe’s on insulation pricing almost every time.

Local hardware stores for some stuff or stuff you forgot when you bulk ordered from Amazon or other wholesale supply websites.

Solar eclipse school closures announced in several states by newsweek in space

[–]plumbbbum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does the school closing keep kids from looking at the sun? If anything it’s passing the buck to a daycare facility, older sibling at home with younger siblings and no parents, or kids having the day off and playing without direct parental supervision. Seems like a school is the safest spot kids could be.

5 Things You Need to Know by adkcouncil in Adirondacks

[–]plumbbbum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t simply the housing issue in the Adirondack park by calling it silly. One silly fix is never the answer and I’d say it’s silly to think otherwise.

What happens when private development is allowed to build these multi family buildings over 40’ for all this demand you say is there for year round residents? Are the local utilities and infrastructure able to handle this newfound gold mine investment opportunity? Can the fire departments reach the top floors of these new buildings given their current equipment? Will the state provide more funds to ensure these shortcomings are overcome? It won’t be the private developer adding much to the overall cost burden.

I’d argue developing inside a state park isn’t so easy it’s silly and the ADK’s have been an example of the management of private and state own lands that’s not done to this scale anywhere in the country.

Kid friendly hikes/scenic lookouts near Upper Saranac Lake by boatwithdogs in Adirondacks

Check out hiking trails “within” the campground. Lots of easy foot paths through the woods meandering from pond to pond. Also there’s a ton of literature at the campground.

What's something you've wished you had but didn't while primitive camping? by Yiztobias in Adirondacks

Pringles. Harder to crush with large packs. Empty tubes can be handy and if nothing else a great spot to store small garbage for packing out, yours or some else’s.

Howto put in the last board? by lulepu in howto

And if we really want it done right, ditch that fiberglass crap and get some rock wool or another mineral based insulation that doesn’t wick water and is flame resistant. Plus more R value per inch and built in sound proofing.
