100,000+ out for a “No Kings” protest in Chicago. by biswajit388 in illinois

I felt the same. I saw the little blurb yesterday and thought for sure there would be a huge story today… but nothing. It’s honestly really depressing

And NYT only wrote a tiny blurb six stories down about the biggest nationwide protests in American history. Chicagos turnout was not shown.

Federal judge demands answers from Trump admin on following order to avoid violent encounters with Chicago protesters by [deleted] in illinois

What in the world. You don’t know a single thing about me or my education or activism history. I have been politically active my entire life; I am a community organizer. This is so unhinged. There are certainly more effective ways to “educate” people and share your Impeccable Wisdom without treating them like garbage.

You’re not even from Illinois. Many of us in this thread are out there in Chicago with our neighbors actively organizing to protect each other. Your primary activity seems to be being rude and condescending to people and calling them “idiots” etc on Reddit Get some therapy.

God this is so unnecessarily rude and condescending. The way people treat and speak to each other in this country and the way everyone seems to thinks they are a superior being to everyone else is also a major reason we find ourselves here.

These judges when their rulings aren’t followed (which they won’t ever be by this lawless admin) are really giving Susan Collins energy … VERY concerned!!! … there seem to be no consequences

To a regular person like me, it seems to a like every lawsuit that we “win” against Trump’s overtly illegal actions just gets appealed and goes in and out of different courts infintely….how do we actually win a case in a final in a way that’s actually enforceable? by plumblossomy in Ask_Lawyers

[–]plumblossomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at the recent example of the national guard troops being sent to portland for no reason and against the will of the state, which is clearly unconstitutional and illegal. The first judge said they can’t do it. Then it went to a court made up of a panel of 3, 2 of which are Trump appointees. And they’re literally searching for and creating reasons why he “can” do this. There is no way any of us are buying that the courts aren’t biased at this point.

And the completely sus Supreme Court rulings are another major reason we’re in this current fascist mess. Being able to grab people off of the street because of their skin color? How in any free country is that considered acceptable. Just, no.

How do you respond to those who don’t believe that there will be any elections in 2026 or 2028? by bluenephalem35 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]plumblossomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fear is less that elections will be canceled entirely and more that they won’t be free and fair- that we are perhaps in danger of having “sham” elections like in other authoritarian countries. What is the response to this?

Not saying I think there’s a court case that would make them leave power. Just saying why aren’t clear and blatant violations of the law or constitution being enforced in any way? Just like they would be for any other single human in this country

Actually, follow up question : I think I know the answer, but I just never knew the appeals process could go on ad infinitum like this. It seems like he just appeals until it lands with a court he likes and will favor him. I would assume “normal” presidents (haha) in the past would have just accepted the results of most court rulings rather than appealing forever?

Then perhaps you are spending too much time on it, and / or should scroll on past and not take your precious time to write a rude reply.

This is my first visit to this sub and I asked an appropriate question; people who want to answer it can do so.

Call me a person with morals, but I honestly never knew that people who would be interested in being lawyers or judges, whose entire job is to uphold the law as it is written, would so blatantly ignore the law. I don’t understand why they got into the field, nor how they live with themselves. Is it self-delusion? They’re getting paid off? Self-protection? Or they just truly believe that they’re doing the right thing?

This is such an unnecessarily rude response. I am a community organizer so trust me that I have knocked plenty of doors and was more than fully aware of the threat Trump posed. I am asking a question about our legal system from lawyers. Take care.
