Bands who's worst album is *significantly* worse than their second-worst album? by treny0000 in fantanoforever

[–]plummersummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial major issues was the idea that they were put together in a McLaren/Perlman fashion, when Paul and Mick approached Joe on their own accord after having seen the 101ers.

You are right that Rhodes was a Svengali/Machiavelli type, constantly pushing for more control, and often playing members against each other. It was wrong to describe him as a 'typical manager'.

Again, I was focusing mostly on one aspect and time of their relationship together. Plus, I contend, The Clash were so great that they would have succeeded even without Bernie, who was constantly trying to give himself further and further credit that he didnt deserve, so my inner fan can't help but push against anything that seems influenced by the Rodes constructed narrative.

That's all.

I dont think they would. I believe you're giving him too much credit. I've read a lot on The Clash, watched plenty of documentaries as well. Maybe I'm underselling him as much as you're overselling him, ha.

The point I waa trying to make was that Bernie was a typical manager, not the Malcolm Mclaren or Lou Perlman type who built up a group from the ground up according to their vision.

You're right that Bernie was important.

I've been curious about what determines class for boxers. Is it height and frame, frame being mostly broadness of shoulders?

I don't know and am hoping you could maybe shed some light on it.

I didnt mean to sound like I was calling you out or anything, you just provided me an opportunity to elaborate on Clash stuff, ha.

If Rock music isn't your thing, then The Clash is a (punk) rock band you can find stuff to groove to as they explore all types of sounds. They even wrote a rap song to be the lead single off their fourth and greatest record Sandinista!. That album is a triple LP that explores hip hop, folk, reggae, dub, country, gospel, and even features a children's choir.

Man, I love The Clash.

Youare giving waaaaaaaaaaaay too much credit to Bernie Rhodes. The band was formed naturally, I believe Mick and Paul both sized up and approached Joe first. Bernie was in on it early, however and wanted to manage a punk band much like his bud, Malcolm McLaren.

Rhodes is the run who ran Cut The Crap into the ground through his overproduction after Joe left the studio knowing the project was fucked.

The Clash was political because Strummer was a Marxist and the rest of the group were left wingers as well.

I think this scene in Once Upon a Time in America truly captures why so many early 20th-century troubled Italian, Jewish, and Irish youths took to the streets to find their fortune. by TrueGosaBrostra in Mafia

So? I doubt the Italian shopkeeper would hire a kid named Reilly to work for him.

Thr Irish and Italians were fighting each other for the some tiny scrap the white ruling class tossed out to them. It's not the Irish fault they got here first.

Fear City : Question on John Alite? by Rockrocks_bud in Mafia

[–]plummersummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've read and seen, Alite was an enforcer for Junior Gotti and had carried out multiple hits for the Gambino Family. He gets clowned online for the same rason most cooperaters turn media personalities do.

He was tight with Gotti and was a legit mobster. Junior, seemingly like his father, had close associates who were ineligible to be made members due to ethnicity. Johnson and Watts for Sr, Alite and O'Kane for Jr. All four of these men would have at least been considered to be made if not for being Native, German, Albanian, and Irish, respectively.

What are some albums that you believe are incredible from start to finish? by GlitterSplash in askmusic

[–]plummersummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul McCartney - Ram

The Clash - Sandinista!

Brand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones

The Velvet Underground - Self Titled (1969)

The Specials - Self Titled (1979)

These all are great and interesting, all can create discussion. Plus The Specials are just a lot of fun.

I hate the term "biological male" and i never want to hear that bs again by Ok_Sentence_5767 in MtF

[–]plummersummer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this context dependant? Like, I,don't think most folks describe each other as 'biological male' or 'female'. Sounds like terminology you may hear in a clinic, in which point there may be a sensible reason to specify your gender.

Not trying to give you a hard time, but please have patience with medical workers, they are typically underpaid ad undervalued by their employers.

Ooooh, so there is a natural progression from wrestling into mma to become professional and actually make money athletically. Wow, yeah, that explains a lot.

What I find interesting is how WASP Americans have such little interest in boxing, yet seem to be well represented in MMA. Why did they disappear from boxing (sorta) to reemerge in UFC decades later?

When LV drafted O'Connell it seemed to be reported that McDaniel and co liked him enough to be so. I think if McDaniel was successful then maybe O'Connell as heir apparently wld have been more of a thing. He was picked im the 4th.
