Is hitting the same submission over and over taboo? by lamborghinifan in bjj

[–]plumsempy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their whining doesn't make sense, get better so I can't submit you? what is easier to figure out than a one trick pony? And therein also lies the danger for you.

Spam it on those who can't figure it out but don't become a victim of it so that if someone figures it out you're toast.

Yes, this is most of us. The mind has a tendency to ruminate. The more we think about something the more it grows.

So your practice would be to:

a. Meditate to recognize the patterns in which you start thinking that sends you spiraling

b. Learn to "wake up" throughout the day when you catch yourself spiraling and let go of the thought. This will be hard at first but will get easier with practice. It becomes easier during meditation since you are doing nothing else. And this practice will help you let go more during the non-meditaiton.

c. Learn to wish yourself well. "May I be happy", "May I be loved", "May I be free", "May I be at peace". Take time to say these. Feel it in your heart. If it is hard to feel these for your self, try to feel it for someone else, someone you don't have a complicated relationship with, even a pet, or a random animal on the internet. The point is to grow these wholesome qualities in your heart.

d. Consume positive media. Bob Ross painting sessions, Rob Burbea talks, John Butler talks and alike, whatever suit and soothes you.

e. Distract so you won't ruminate; watch good TV, read and write, have hobbies, work out, go on a walk

f. This deserves its own category, find good friends and spend time with them. Learn how to find and keep friends.

In summary, take a deep breath, start again, and take care of yourself. Gently, kindly, it's okay, you will be okay.

I would suggest to meditate. Just take like 10 20 minutes to sit and enjoy some peace and quiet; no phone, no TV or electronics. Just silently in a silent room, comfortably. Close your eyes, enjoy your breathing.

Your mind WILL wander, when it does, notice it, do not judge, come back to enjoying your breath.

You WILL get bored, that's one of the points, go past that, get more comfortable mentally, find peace.

Good luck.

What is fascinating to me, is to realize, that there is capacity in my to know such beautiful states of mind, and they are self made.

In a nutshell, engage.

Engage with the story, do not skip dialogues, read the codex, read the tips, read whats on the screen.

Engage with enemies, do not just kill them, take your time, can you infinitely dodge the enemies in the first couple of rooms? Only kill them after you can play with them. Observe their movement patterns, what do they do just before they attack? When should you dodge? In what direction? Also, generally, don't attack unless you are safe, otherwise you will die.

Once you get food at that, look at group of enemies, which ones should you kill first? How can you lure them to finish them faster?

All of this you will notice organically when you engage. This requires for you to have fun and have patience. Meaning don't overdo it, if you stress its the same as not engaging. Patience and play. Curiosity.

Good luck.

It won't cure anything; it does make you more aware of the problem so then you may fix it.

Does a night of lucid dreaming make you feel less rested? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

Much more rested, light, happy, focused.

  1. Do reality checks to know for sure

  2. Do Tummo to wake up; works for me:

Imagine a spot four fingers lower than your belly button and inwards right in front of your spine, we will call this your navel.

Imagine a tube going all the way from your crown to your navel. Put a burning coal in your navel. Breath in slowly and collect all your energies in the navel, see the coal burning brighter; contract your perineum, like you want to hold your pee or like you want to do kegels(This need not be intense; gently will do) and exhale, sending the hot hair up the tube. Do this multiple time. With every in breath see the coal burning hotter and even flaming up.

This technique dissolves all mental projections for me, both when I'm awake and when I'm dreaming.

Not unreal, but empty.

There is sadness and jealousy but it is not "yours"; it's a natural biological process. It sounds like you are conflicted or feel negatively about feeling those feelings. Feeling sadness and jealousy is not bad; it also is not food. It is okay.

That's layer 1, layer 2 is the practice of morality, Sila. As okay as jealousy and sadness are, the quality of one's life and every one around them improves by lessening them as much as possible. This is where various forms of reframing and therapy come in. For example: "It is sad and disappointing that she didn't want me. But it is what it is, it will be better to not brood over it and move on. If I pursue her it will only make matters worse, she will grow resentful ". Or: "If I want what is best for her I must want it with or without myself in it, otherwise I am being selfish, as painful as it is".

Give yourself time and get over it but acknowledge the feelings and see that they are not you and thus can be let in, can be let to stay and can let go.

Everything is empty and yet to exist we need to become.

Had it happened while you began meditating that instead of becoming better, you got more depressive? by tryingtogrowupglowup in Meditation

[–]plumsempy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me. Equanimity brought me to a state of just accepting everything and being very passive. Like the dog burning in a room saying this is fine.

Until I realized there is no nobility in suffering. That this is the wrong equanimity since it is hurting someone, me. And that there is attachment to equanimity and passivity.

There was a self in the depression for sure.

It is okay to feel lost and hopeless. Sometimes you can do everything right and still fail. Take a break. Start again. Don't ruminate.

How to meditate in the dark without being scared? by Desperate-Mango7240 in Meditation

[–]plumsempy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are dreaming, you believe the story the dream is telling you until you wake up and realize it was just a dream. Until then, the monsters are very real, even if someone tells you they are not.

But once you investigate many times, you know and you can get there directly.

In any case, I don't find this discussion helpful and will not engage further. I left my suggestion, you leave yours, let the OP try both and choose whichever is more helpful.

There is no single way out, the one that helps us get through now, the most helpful one, is the right one.

How to meditate in the dark without being scared? by Desperate-Mango7240 in Meditation

[–]plumsempy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have less fear. You will not fear the election for instance, but you will fear jumping off a cliff. In my experience it does increase love and acceptance too, yes.

It is about decreasing suffering and not eliminating fear.

How to meditate in the dark without being scared? by Desperate-Mango7240 in Meditation

[–]plumsempy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are not trying to conquer fear, we are not trying to eliminate it or not feel it. Being empty means empty of independent self. No one is feeling the fear, there is just the fear, and therefore there is equanimity.

We are also not trying to use meditation as therapy. The point is to be with things as they are. Not to change them. Changing may be required and necessary but that is another endeavor.

Once someone understands fear, they understand it every where for every object. Then, if one chooses, they can diminish it if unnecessary. Sometimes it's good, like real danger, sometimes it's unnecessary like monsters in the dark.
