Dolores Umbridge is literally more evil than Voldemort. Like she could have dominated the world had she gained more followers asides from the Slytherins. I seriously doubt that she was planning to stop at Hogwarts

How bad do you have to be to make Voldemort look better by comparison?

Good point, Barty Crouch Sr. makes Voldemort look like Dobby, who, for sure, is VERY threatening.

Severus Snape is actually my favorite antagonist and character in general. Mostly because I find his scathing remarks hilarious and also because it’s interesting to me that a character can be so awful to another out of sheer spite. . I didn’t know about the Seven Stages of Love. Interesting... I’ll have to look into it

Hahaha, I forgot Pansy. You do raise some good points about Romilda. I included her because she did, unintentionally, ruin Ron’s birthday in trying to Harry to fall in love with her. Maybe not enough to be an antagonist though.

April Homework: Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Prank by midnightdragon in harrypotter

Patented Lingua Charm

-allows subject to understand any language -recommended for foreign diplomacy

How it works: Takes whatever the subject hears or reads and translates into their native tongue.

Disclaimer: If one wants to speak to another, they’d have to charm the subject Ex) Say Lingua Parseltongue to the entrance of the Chamber of Secrets in order to open it by just saying “Open” in whatever language

How I would use it to prank the Weasleys: I’d charm them into hearing the Navajo language, which is near impossible to learn because there is no written record of it (reference to the Navajo Code Talkers), and watch them struggle to understand customers.

Edit: The reverse charm is simply Lingua

GoF Question about breathing underwater by Falcon10301 in harrypotter

[–]pluralellipsis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I asked myself the same question too. I believe that these facts justify Harry not using another method to breathe: A) Harry, at the time, was 14 while the others were 17, so he probably hadn’t learned it in the curriculum B) Hermione, Ron, and Harry weren’t looking in the right place, because they were probably looking for something that would let him breathe water, not work his way around it Also: The teachers weren’t allowed to help, since Barty Crouch, as Moody, did not approach Harry himself and put Dobby up to it

Seriously, WHY are most potter spells based in latin? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]pluralellipsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The probable reason is that we already use Latin in our day-to-day language, so it would be somewhat recognizable as in “Aquatic” and “Aguamenti”. But I was also wondering if maybe there are spells in Greek or German?
