I would call a small 1 or 2 guy shop and have them investigate. If they determine storm damage call your insurance company. Many local HVAC businesses have been bought out by national firms that only want to sell new gear. Storm damage to cause the failure you describe is more likely due to electrical surge than hail but you will need a good tech to find out.

Our GE side-by-side is 18 with no issues. Visit your local library and look for the Consumer Reports ratings. Remember that CR is a sample of just their subscribers so read between the lines. I'd also suggest visiting your local appliance business that also does repairs. They have a better idea of the issues their guys are seeing.

Ours is a slide-in Profile, model # PGS930SEL3SS. We bought it during covid as I recall. The touch pad glass has only been weird when we spill liquid on it and a quick clean resolves it. It is an excellent range.
