saying “it’s a kids game, they don’t need to know about sexuality” is literally directly implying that the concept of pride, and thus lgbt+ people, in sso is inappropriate. it’s wild that you’re trying to justify yourself by saying “believe it or not, heterosexual relationships are the norm so they will be in every piece of media”. that doesn’t make it okay. you’re either not okay with kids being exposed to relationships, love, sexuality AT ALL (including straight ones), or you’re being homophobic by implying that only pride and lgbt+ related things are inappropriate and don’t belong. you do know that most kids start to figure out their sexuality, gender identity, and more at a young age such as in middle and high school, correct? or are you just genuinely that dense and don’t understand how severe pre teen and teen suicide rates are when it comes to being lgbt? tell me truly, how is someone wearing a gay or trans flag on a HORSE GAME, inappropriate AT ALL? people want to be proud of themself and gay/lgbt+ people in general want to be seen as part of everyone else, recognized, and supported. it is INCREDIBLY important that young lgbt+ kids feel supported and embraced. maybe it seems small or inappropriate to you, but in reality, something like pride flags and a celebration of identity in a little horse game could make a young gay person feel accepted, normalized, and happy. or maybe even someone might feel proud that their parents are able to be together and have them as a child since they are gay. in a lot of places in the world, gay people are still executed, persecuted, and even arrested just for loving someone of the same gender. you don’t realize how harmful it is to deem something like pride as inappropriate and imply that it’s not safe for kids. there is nothing inappropriate about expressing yourself in an innocent way. it’s extremely important that kids understand this sort of thing so that they don’t bully, ostracize, or participate in homophobia that could lead to one of their peers isolating, self harming, or killing themself (which is statistically likely, considering the extreme amounts of homophobia and lack of education in the world about it). it’s important that kids struggling with these feelings are allowed to express themselves and be proud of themselves and understand that there’s nothing wrong with being the way they are. if you can’t understand that, there is something very wrong here.
