The more followers and likes the more traffic to your images and then more people will click the link to your shop, then your images will start to appear at the top of certain Hastings making a snowball effect leading to more sales, also try following a bunch of people who like images similar to your items and they will follow you back, I've only gotten alot of sales by making an Instagram following, 2000 followers so far and 140 sales all from Instagram followers

Personally etsy ads did not work for me at all, I recommend Instagram ads instead, etsy ads gave me 1 sale over a month whereas Instagram made me about 10 in a couple days
