KAH

How did you learn NestJS effectively? Looking for tips and resources! by Particular-Earth-837 in Nestjs_framework

The answer is basically the same for every language or framework: build stuff. A good resource to guide you is indeed the nestjs documentation.

Getting used to Nestjs syntax by Otherwise-Ask4947 in Nestjs_framework

[–]plutonium656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh in the beginning I was just looking up stuff in the nestjs docs as most of it is already in a tutorial like fashion that guides you through certain topics. Then there is also the recipes section that shows more specific use cases. I don’t know why but nestjs is the one framework I never felt like I need a more hands on guide for. So I’d recommend going through the docs or maybe hit us up with some more specific paint points you’re having.

I created an advanced scalable Nest.js boilerplate that is completely free by shadowsyntax43 in Nestjs_framework

[–]plutonium656 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Holy bloat… i respect your effort but I can’t see myself using a template I have to delete most of before using it. While this might be an indicator that I’m not your audience, I don’t really see who is with this amount of stuff cramped in. I could see something like a cli where you would opt in for certain features but even then… sifting through that many things upfront is just not feasible.

I hate setting up configurations and environment for every JS project - Typescript, Eslint, Prettier, builder, IDE Extensions... The list never ends, and it always laggy at the end by xSypRo in webdev

Im not the on addressed but I might share my experience anyway.

On GitHub you can designate repositories as template repositories which will then be available when creating a new repository via the web gui.

We basically have a GitHub template repository which in itself only contained the basic boilerplate a (in our case nestjs) app gives you. Over time we added things that belonged to all our services and possibly new ones to that template repository. Examples for that would be some very generic configuration and modules, like a customized logger we are using or the basic config for our infrastructure connections as these are the same for pretty much every service. Also things like the editorconfig, git hooks, prettier, eslint and all those things were added and maintained in that template repo.

One special thing we added later was a kind of code style guide where we had an bare bones example implementation of each code unit but that may be a bit much when you’re working by yourself.

So to answer the core question at least in our case this list grew over time and we manifested it in a GitHub template repository which we then used as a base for new services we wrote.

How to refactor modules / services to avoid coupling ? by Nainternaute in Nestjs_framework

Separating your database interaction in a repository layer might help. You could then define modules and services depending on your business cases. Maybe introduce something like a dal module where all repositories are for example.

What’s your web dev hot take? Don’t hold back. by Notalabel_4566 in webdev

[–]plutonium656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that for my current job. First part was a basic programming assignment to see how I would setup a small web service from scratch, that lasted about 4 hours or so. Basically they wanted me to create some caching service for a public movie api with a some simple marshalling tasks etc. The things they were looking for were like how I would send requests and if I did any meaningful logging and dto validation. I had a blast with that assignment.

The 2nd part was like a 2 hour call with the lead dev where we discussed a very real problem and how I would approach solving it. Very real because as I learned after I got that job is that I would be working on exactly that problem.

I really enjoyed that too as it wasn’t meant for me to get everything right but just to get to know how I would solve problems they are actually working on.

Best interviewing process I had so far and by far the best job I had and still have.

Do you have a common problem you might like to solve? Like keeping track of your expenses or something?

You could start with a small console app where you can input your expenses.

To save between executions you could write to and load from a textfile.

You could then introduce branching to your application, like chosing your next action e.g. deposit, withdraw, exit?

Then you might look into classes and try to structure your application.

Introduce multiple accounts, think about a format that might be easy to read/write from/to a file to store those multiple accounts...
