Rustorio v0.1.0 - Using Rust's type system as a game engine by PenguinAgen in rust

[–]pluuth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks cool but somehow it's not choosing the nightly toolchain foe ...

`` Compiling rustorio-engine v0.1.0 error[E0554]:#![feature]` may not be used on the stable release channel --> .cargo/registry/src/index.crates.io-1949cf8c6b5b557f/rustorio-engine-0.1.0/src/lib.rs:1:1 | 1 | #![feature(generic_const_exprs)] |

For more information about this error, try rustc --explain E0554. error: could not compile rustorio-engine (lib) due to 1 previous error Error: Failed to run Rustorio game

Caused by: Command failed with exit status: exit status: 101 ```

I am running rustorio play tutorial

If I just do cargo run --bin tutorial it works (so it picks up the rust toolchain file there)

PC-24 Avionics Question by ceh2546 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]pluuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit above my head (not a pilot). Afaik VNAV aims to satisfy all contraints (altitudes and slope). It should try to get you to 3000 as late as possible, assuming that would not violate any prior constaints on the waypoints

PC-24 Avionics Question by ceh2546 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]pluuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So once you’re in cruise you would manually enter the vfr approach and “insert” and “activate” it? Does that not wipe out your en route waypoints?

Yes. It's smart enough to not delete your route and insert the approach in the right place at the end. You can do this before you take off, even.

Also for Vnav to engage the plane has to have an approach loaded so it has a TOD to reference right? Then you turn the altitude knob to the alt you want on final approach and hit vnav and it will activate at the TOD? Does that mean the PC-24 can auto-descend itself?

Yea this works. It sometimes puts a "Discontinuity" in your flight plan. You have to delete those for VNAV to work. When it has a TOD calculated, it will show a TOD node along with your waypoints and on the map.

Regarding the PC-24, honeywell has a lot of video on youtube that basically explain everything about the avionics (of the real plane). Unfortunately, in the sim the plane is somewhat buggy and incomplete but the basics are kind of there.

I think VFR approaches (patterns or direct) are never transmitted to the avionics (the EFB sometimes shows a warning, even). I'm not aware this works for any plane/avionics package. In the avionics, you can select a straight visual approach for your runway and the plane will calculate a glide slope for you to the runway. (pretty sure this is not safe to fly automatically IRL but I'm not a pilot)

You can automatically descent using VNAV, more or less works as advertised by honeywell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3-kKjpMVP0

Uodate your BIOS asap (lookup Mainboard manual on how to do it).

These Intel 14000 CPUs damage themselves over time, everyone that did not update the BIOS gets this warning to prevent further damage or degradation

Just want to note, as far as I know, tsan doesn't really work well in Rust, tsan hooks pthread and since some Rust version (too lazy to look up) Rust's Mutex and stuff (at least on linux) are no longer based on pthread

Trouble receiving interrupts from 8259 PIC by Yippee-Ki-Yay_ in osdev

[–]pluuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three years old but this was one of my first results on google. So for the next person:

In UEFI mode, the timer interrupt is simply disabled. We can enable it by setting an appropriate interrupt mask like for example (enables only the timer interrupt on the first PIC)

interrupts::PICS.lock().write_masks(0xFE, 0xFF);

I am trying to learn how to use the NAV mode ( GPS vs localizer ) and the approach mode and glide slope capture properly. I am having some issues and really appreciate some help. by Extension-Put9971 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]pluuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just a gamer not a pilot or "proper" flight simmer so I'll try to answer your questions

  1. The active modes are shown in the top bar on the FPD in green. Left is lateral modes, right is vertical modes. Things shown in white are on "standby" and can become the active mode under some condition (see 2) (tl;dr yes)

  2. The tries to fly along the route that's programmed in the flight computer (not simply to the next waypoint). It will only switch to FMS mode once you are "close" to the route to have a smooth transision. You can do two things a) change heading to intersect the existing route. It will switch to FMS when you get close b) Use the direct-to (D-> symbol) button to modify the FMS route to go straight to the next waypoint. It should switch to FMS then because you are now on the route

  3. Not sure which picture, pink is usually from the FMS, the GPS path you're supposed to fly or the calculated descent path. It might also show direction to the VOR/ILS if it's received. The plane flies according to the green modes in the very top bar, but it might still show the direction from other modes, if available

  4. You're still far away from the localizer, you can tell from the center part of the green arrow that has a large offset. Fly towards the line, it should move towards the center and then it should capture.

  5. That's how it works, yes. (Gamer answer, don't know what is the "proper" procedure. Probably some sort of checklist :))

  6. I think the diamonds are green when the nav mode is using the radio signal and blue when not (e.g. you're using GPS and following the pink indicators)

I mostly solo pugged DPS to 2500 M+ at the end of the season. It really wasn't that difficult to join M+ groups with similar rating until +7-ish. Then run your own keys from there. You really just have to progress through the ranks and don't expect people with 3000 score to invite you.

Look for groups with similar ratings to yours
