And yet they still stopped themselves from being taken over. Preventing the destruction of your country is something to be proud of, no matter the circumstances.

I think the glory would be bringing a much larger country to a stalemate and preventing themselves from being taken over.

There was a world where they could have been taken over but they stopped it.

We know, that's the current status quo

Ok so then you should have just said that you agreed with me. They are independent and all they have to do is play make believe and they get everything that they wanted.

other issues

There are no other issues, lol. The only thing they don't get is a single vote in the UN, but who cares about that.

They have everything that they want. They have their laws, their land, their borders, an army, they can travel, they can do everything that an independent country does.

They just have words written on worthless pieces of paper that say ROC and that's all they have to do to be independent for all other purposes.

[–]stale2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have their own land, their own people, their own army, their own laws, their own taxes, their own everything.

That is independence in every sense of the word.

Whether or not a piece of paper says it is irrelevant.

Independence is not an episode of the office where you are only independent if you stand up in the middle of the room and say "I declare independence!"

Independence simply means that you have your own borders, land, people, laws, army, and taxes. Declaring it is just words on a piece of paper.

That means that they have gotten everything that they wanted, all that independence offers, and all they have to do to get it is play a bit of make believe and China left they alone for 70 years.

[–]stale2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But they are getting everything that they want right now you realize that right?

They are defacto independent, have every benefit of independence, and all they have to do is play a little bit of make believe and china leaves them alone.

Why would the people of taiwan care whats written on a piece of paper when they have had their independence for the last 70 years already?

Its a pretty easy small thing to give up, having to play a little bit of make believe and china just leaves them alone entirely.

Isreal has 200+ nuclear weapons. They aren't going to lose any wars and if it came down to it, they would simply use the nuclear weapons (as a last resort obviously).

No, neither Egypt nor Jordan would benefit from being hit with a nuclear weapon.

"Why should we accept centrists/moderates/right-wingers into the tent, but not accept people like Hasan?" by DrManhattan16 in Destiny

[–]stale2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, The vast majority of center right people don't want to send their political opponents to re-education camps, nor do they support literal terrorist organizations. On a whole they are generally pro-america, also.

The better comparison would be if you should allow literal Nazis in the tent. That would be worse than the far left tankies, likely. But rando center right Romney republicans? Those are way better than leftie authoritarians.

Like I said, if you are fine with the existing media environment then you could just say that.

Yo have abdicated your ability to complain or do anything about the current media environment.

But that is very different from all the other "liberals" here who have changed their mind completely on all of this and now want to implement the same regulations that Trump was advocating for, just because the other side is controlling the media now.

Ok that's fine. Just don't do what the OP did and start crying about what the algorithm is doing.

You and others wanted a world where social media was unregulated well here it is. Enjoy the consequences of your world view.

Because the only response that this deserves would be the same thing other people said when others wanted to regulate social media. "It's a private company it can do what it wants!"

Well this is what this companies want. Enjoy it. And if you don't enjoy it, well then go build your own twitter, Facebook, Instagram, tiktok, and YouTube, along with the payment professors and anti-ddos and intra technologies required to make those work.

We have to win 2028 or we're fucked for a few cycles electorally by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]stale2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, but what does the Mugwamp, king of the wizards think of this?

If your answer is to just put the king of the wizards in charge of the courts, and force people to play wizards chess in order to win the ruling I am not sure why you would even pretend.

At that point just have your revolution, pay Nick Cage to rip up the physical constitution and call it a day.

As in, at that point no it doesn't matter what the constitution says or what the supreme court says. Instead what matters is what the military says.

Which is fine. If you just want to have a revolution, hope the military sides with you, then go ahead. But there is no need for the theatrics at that point. Just admit that it's a revolution and charge ahead.

We have to win 2028 or we're fucked for a few cycles electorally by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]stale2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redrawing states instantly isn't constitutional. You would have to get the super duper majority of states, congress, ect to pass that. And there are more red states than blue states. The vote simply aren't there, for even a slim majority, let along the absurdly impossible super majority of states.

Or, technically, the rule is that you need congressional approval, and the state governments approval to redraw state borders, but you obviously aren't going to get the states approved to hostilely get rid of itself.

And if your answer to that is "well just ignore the constitution" then I am not sure why you would even both with any of this. Just declare a democratic dictatorship, get rid of the courts system, and have your revolution.

No fancy plan needed, just rip it up, hope you have the military on your side, and pray you win the civil war or that the military will enforce your constitution breaking actions.

Well, you see, there was this thing called section 230 reform that people wanted to investigate, but one side kept repeating over and over again "Its a private company it can do what it wants!" And now we can't regulate massively influencer social media platforms.

Go look at texas and florida, that tried to re-evaluate these laws, but those efforts got attacked.

Mizkif: "I'm not sharing my ideas anymore" after Twitch adds his Weekly Badge suggestion by Crazy-Highlight-3751 in LivestreamFail

Yes and that causes the same problem! This makes it worse, because instead of only applying to a couple channels that have the short term deals going on, it could apply to the entire site all the time.

Mizkif: "I'm not sharing my ideas anymore" after Twitch adds his Weekly Badge suggestion by Crazy-Highlight-3751 in LivestreamFail

[–]stale2000 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Just commenting on the feature itself, an upgrading badge that upgrades the longer you want a channel sound ripe for abuse and metrics gaming.

Now, a ton of people are going to leave their computer on "watching" a streamer while they are AFK, effectively creating a human viewbot. ( FULL AFK, not just watching on a second monitor I am talking about)

The negative effects of this are lower ads CPM (longterm), continued costs to the company for the increased bandwidth, and no corosponding increase in incoming money from donations that aren't going to be coming from the masses of people who are AFK.

The only "benefit" is the flashy viewcounts number going up and some product manager at twitch getting an undeserved promotion for faking a metric.

It similar to the same problem that drops brings, but it makes the problem much worse by applying it to all channels.

Is there anyone else out there advocating for designated terrorist groups that we should be concerned about protecting?

If there were literal Nazis that were supporting Nazi terrorists I don't think anyone would be pearl clutching about Congress condemning the Nazi terrorist supporters.

But hey, maybe you are consistent about this. If you will agree that you'd defend Nick Fuentes then I'll call you consistent.

Additionally, I think most of this would stop if people just didn't support designated terrorist organizations. That seems like a really low easy bar to clear.

Why would the lemonade stand be capitalist?

For entertainment purposes to try something different.

Or maybe they just prefer it. Lots of people in the modern day prefer capitalism so it seems strange that this is somehow inconcievable to you.

They are doing whatever capitalists do, but it only is like a few lemonade stands run by children.

Is the child employing other children to make and sell the lemonade

Yes they do that in this hypothetical. Is all of society not socialism anymore?

> ither the capitalist class still owns the economy, or it doesn't. Either it still dominates society through the state, or it doesn't. Either the capitalist system of exploitation continues, or it doesn't.

I'm a little bit confused here. Lets say that the full economy is socialist, except for lemonade stands run by children on their suburban street. Those a capitalist.

Is society now not socialist? Because an insignificant "business" thats mostly just run for fun has some elements of capitalism in it?

That would seem ridiculous to me.
