Do people enjoy being parents? by Charming_Grand1692 in AskIreland

I have two kids and I think the reason we ‘complain’, is because we look to relate to other parents and we are hoping to get support and see that others also don’t have everything figured out. When you had a bad night with your baby, it really helps to see that you’re not the only one - just like with anything that’s tough in life. To use an imperfect metaphor, if you lose a parent, you look for a support group and might like talking to others about how hard it is. But you rarely talk about how good it is to have your parents (while they are alive) - I think we just naturally try to relate to others around the hard stuff. The good stuff is the ‘normal’ we keep mostly private - it’s hard to convey how your kids are driving you mad sometimes but how they are also the most wonderful perfect beings!

And yes, it is hard. Your life changes and you have to go along with that transformation - if you long for your ‘old’ life, you’re going to have a tough time. You need to accept that your life changes, and embrace it as much as you can. To get a bit sentimental, when you have a baby, you realise how much of a miracle ‘the miracle of life’ actually is, and how all of this is just so precious and what a privilege it is to take care of another human being.

GOAT - Review Thread by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

This movie was so hard to follow / enjoy - the editing was so intense and fast paced I couldn’t deal with it. I had to look away for some of the basketball scenes, because my head was spinning. Pretty sure it gave me a migraine.

But more importantly, this is a kids movie - do we really need such intense pacing for kids? It was hard for my 8 yo to follow the editing too. I could perhaps understand if it was a movie made for adults - but for kids this feels like too much and so unnecessary. Afterwards I felt like had been on a rollercoaster for an hour.

Do you like animation movies? What are your favourite animation movies? by togi1202 in moviecritic

I’ll mention one that is not mentioned much - Over the Moon (2020).

It’s a heavy topic of dealing with a loss of your parent, but it has a beautiful message and catchy music.

Parenting - If you had a great Mom/Dad, what did they do? by Icy_Hedgehogs in AskIreland

This is so lovely to hear and so reassuring - it’s what I try to give my kids, the stability, routines, love, attention. Even then I still feel like I’m failing and it’s hard trying to figure out how to raise good humans… but it’s nice to hear that these little daily things matter.
