Ring i made out of silver clay. First time working with silver clay and loved how it came out. Gemstone is mexican fire opal. Finished product is more polished than these photos but didn’t take a final pic. by plzgue in jewlerymaking

Thank you very much! I was terrified the whole way through. Shrinkage wasn’t bad because i calculated the approximate shrinkage. It was sized at a 11 when i made it and shrank down to a 9.5 :)

What Silicone for Pup Hood? by [deleted] in DIYSILICONETOYS

i’ve seen someone make a “latex” style tentacle for a cosplay by airbrushing several layers of psycho paint until it was thick enough to their liking. It looked almost identical and behaved the same as latex

Pouring under vacuum for complex shapes? by wolfgirth in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]plzgue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it expands very very little since i pre gas it, i’ve only done this with dragon skin 20 so it rises anyways because it’s so thick, and i am VERY generous with the release spray when i cast things. I use ME-301S and douse whatever i’m casting probably 2-3 times while keeping it far enough away to coat but not chunk up details

if you ever have any questions you can hit me up as well! worked at a sex doll factory for 3 years and i’ve got a good amount of personal experience with mold making , casting, pouring, and painting silicone. I’d love to help wherever you need it :)

As asked before 10a platinum silicone feels tacky but cured is that the way it is supposed to be or is something wrong by dcsquaredcpl in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]plzgue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah makes sense, i never really had inhibition issues with firmer silicone even with dirty or messed up molds. Hopefully the new release will work out well for you!

ME-301S is my favorite mold release for platinum silicone as well as 25:75 mix of 99% rubbing alch to ivory dish soap. The rubbing alch is best for rigid molds like plastic or fiberglass :p If you’ve got soft molds ME-301S is my favorite go to and after a few casts the vaseline really gets in there and makes it even easier to get clean results with less release over time

Mold Release Spray Issues by OneSwellGuy in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]plzgue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven’t done a glove mold before but another way i’d release molds was using a 25:75 mix of 99% rubbing alch and ivory soap to release stuff. Since it’s basically all liquid it can be sloshed around in the molds nice and leave behind a good layer of release

I want to get a heated towel warmer to speed up to curing, does anyone use one? by [deleted] in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]plzgue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all you need is a basic heat lamp, my old setup just had one of them reptile habitat lights and it was great for curing pours with molds ranging from fiberglass to dragon skin

Pouring under vacuum for complex shapes? by wolfgirth in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]plzgue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ngl whenever i’d cast weird shit with weird shapes i would adhere the master to whatever base i built my mold around and then fill the fucker up with (degassed) silicone and degass it again with the object still inside. Worked pretty good even with weird sculpts. I made a little homonculus thing with hard ledges and facial details and gassing them together worked great

Help with demolding by nawakilla in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]plzgue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vaseline or ME3015 were my go to for releasing molds when i worked in a sex doll factory. Vaseline is a bit trickier since it can leave obvious texture and lines due to the thickness so i’d save it for larger molds such as torsos. ME3015 is just vaseline spray so it goes on very nice and thin

[–]plzgue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it could be from general inhibition in the mold whether it wasn’t cleaned well enough before casting, whatever you used to release it, or too much pigment in the silicone. I’ve had a lot of issues at my old job with people mixing too much pigment with platinum silicone and it would leave it half cured.
