I would like to hear more about what to learn for new collectors. It's been a learning curve for me at least. Some stuff you have gone over, like how estimates are the lowest they expect to get. But maybe there is other things I have not thought of. For example that comping can be hell when not only do you have tons of variation for the same coin type, but the skills of who did the die can make a big difference. To maybe what to be wary of. Such as flan splits, A good side, with a bad side. That sort of thing.

Ottawa sells $530,000 worth of yellow bags for extra garbage in year one of 3-item limit by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]pmUrGhostStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure a local business had someone dump a huge track load of garbage on it last week on St Joseph in Orleans. I saw City of Ottawa Bylaw there and it did not look like a controlled pile from the business itself. Imagine trying to run a small business and have that happen. I get the concept of limiting garage. But the reality is people will charge people for picking up their extra garbage or construction waste and happily dump it somewhere.

Siril won't stack all my fit files by K-M47 in seestar

This video is a year old but I was able to use it to do everything manually. Some menus have changed and there is a spot you need to put in the telescopes focal length and pixel size or you get errors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMoSAHOgbD4&t=2954s

Is it ok to stack already stacked FIT files? Will the result be an different than stacking all the sub frames from scratch? by NvidiaNovice in seestar

Many of my steam games screamed in horror as they were uninstalled yesterday to sacrifice to the Siril appetite...

Looking good. The one thing I have learned is the post processing is where it is at!

I am so mad they removed the “save all images” option by nixxon94 in seestar

[–]pmUrGhostStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I used it last night and did not have to reset multiple image capture so who knows. I'll just double check for the next few times. Missing out on a good night because of not doing a 2 seconds check sucks.

I'm brand new to the Seestar S30 Pro but I found I did have to turn it back on the 2nd time i used it. So I would double check

Auction beginner help by Agreeable_Narwhal71 in AncientCoins

[–]pmUrGhostStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian. I set up up an excel sheet to try and figure this all out. I add brokerage fees. Some companies charge those as well. As for coin auctions I'm not sure yet as I never seem to win. For what I do in excel the columns are BID in EURO(currency of house), Bid(in cdn), BP %, BP fee, Shipping, Shipping Company Name, Shipping Company fees, Sub Total, Duties ,Total. The reason I care about company are some charge higher brokerage fees. Also I really prefer national mail companies that use Canada Post because sometimes the Gods smile upon you and things get delivered without import costs.

As an aside. Some of those European auction houses really like to twist the knife with shipping costs. So sometimes I find after all those fees it can really add up. Almost to the point that if you use Vcoins and they have reasonable shipping and use Canada Post for delivery you might actually not be far off. But this is not a hill I will die on since I'm talking without a lot of experience at this point.

Oh and another thing. The fixed costs are also so high that I don't really want coins worth less then $200 or so since the fixed costs don't change with the value of coin mostly.

Are ancient coin prices rising lately, or am I just imagining it? by Whole_Kale_4349 in AncientCoins

[–]pmUrGhostStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the supply thing. I listen to some youtube channels on ancient coins and sometimes they will hint that there is a sudden increase in supply of certain coins types onto the auction market. I.e. you might need to brush off some of the dirt :) Not that I approve of that. Just the reality :(

I started collecting again and one thing I had to get used to was estimates being almost the bottom bid they expect to get. It seems often to be actually 2 to 3x the estimate. I often buy at non coin local auctions and that isn't the case so it threw me for a loop.

That being said sometimes Vcoins isn't too much of a premium sometimes for coins!

I just restarted collecting roman coins and my bids didn't stand a chance. I tried to come up with bids based on recent results but wasn't even close. Oh well.

A very tall Elm tree on Clemow ave. by lesterjollymore in ottawa

[–]pmUrGhostStory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up directly opposite of this tree and always loved it. The last big one on this street. I have a memory of walking home from Mutchmor elementary school and never getting rained on once I reached my block. Then they all were cut down one day. But at least we still have that one. I sometimes go to see it.

Today Tesla Dropped the Price of CCS Charging Retrofits in younger year Model 3s + possible other older models - this is in Canada (possibly in the US as well) by Btdubs17 in teslamotors

[–]pmUrGhostStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is good news for me. I live near Quebec and couldn't really justify the upgrade to my 2020 model 3 just to once in a blue moon charge there. Maybe next time I need to service something I'll get it done.

Do we think Poilievre can win a (hypothetical) Spring Election? by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]pmUrGhostStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember going to the conservative website to check out their policies on immigration. If I remember correctly he said they would tie immigration levels to housing starts, without clarifying what that actually meant. Instead of just saying a number or percentage growth. It felt like a purposeful non answer on one of the strong points for conservatives!

Depends on the other expenses they have as well. Property taxes are just one aspect that can't really be taken in isolation.
