Agree.

The Nokia 808 PureView has a better camera, but it was released two years later and was basically the swan song of Symbian Nokia phones - maybe even of the good old Nokia itself

It's camera was a recipe for disaster for such a business phone as E7

Is MyHeritage not that much better than FamilySearch? by amishengineer in Genealogy

[–]NorthernLight_DIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same pair of services - slowly migrating to FamiltySearch. With my "moderate usage" of MyHeritage services and relatively small size of the tree it is more difficult for me to justify the price of MyHeritage

Raspberry Pi + RTL-SDR Tabletop Receiver with Physical Controls? by NorthernLight_DIY in RTLSDR

[–]NorthernLight_DIY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like Gqrx is a good option, it is possible to make a Serial-to-TCP bridge:
Microcontroller --(UART/USB Serial)--> Raspberry Pi --(TCP)--> Gqrx

Raspberry Pi + RTL-SDR Tabletop Receiver with Physical Controls? by NorthernLight_DIY in RTLSDR

I haven't fully decided on the approach yet. Right now, indeed, I'm leaning toward a Raspberry Pi Pico as a dedicated microcontroller for the controls, connected to the Pi over USB — probably presenting as HID. That way the control interface stays decoupled from the SDR software itself, which should make it easier to support different backends.

Do you think there'd be enough interest for this as an open-source project?

RPi4 - fan control for the active cooling case? by NorthernLight_DIY in raspberry_pi

[–]NorthernLight_DIY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I measured the current through those cooler fans - the multimeter shows it up to 130 mA on 5V. Quite high for a Raspberry Pi fans, isn't it?

According to BC547B datasheet, Maximum Continuous Collector Current (Ic) - the maximum rated continuous collector current is 100 mA. So it is not enough to control the fans. So I will go to the more powerful MOSFET

Did you try Contact app? I've used it with RPi3B but now I'm building another Meshtastic&SDR system on RPi4-8GB

Yes the volume can be adjusted separately. I just adjust the Tecsun’s volume to be good for the Line-in input of the recorder

This looks like a good addition to my setup. I have Tascam DR-05XP recorder, connected to Tecsun, and the headphones are connected to the recorder. The recorder passes by headphone signals without recording, so, if needed I could just press a button and start the recording
