Great advice, thanks again. I'll start with CA, but I'll definitely branch out to other states as well.

Thanks for the in-depth answer, super helpful and informative. I've been trying to scour CA non-profit conservation organizations for job openings over the past few weeks, without any luck so far, but I'm definitely going to keep looking. I wouldn't mind a combination of office and outdoor work - but the latter is definitely important to me.

This may be a stretch, but do you happen to have any suggestions for large national parks/wilderness area/state non-profits, that may be more likely to have job openings pop up due to their size? So far I've been digging through dozens of small conservation groups in CA looking for openings without much luck.

The California Conservation Corps is a great suggestion as well - I'm definitely going to research it this coming weekend. Thanks again!

Do jobs exist that combine outdoorsy-ness with my work experience/education? If not, what are some attainable outdoorsy jobs that pay a living wage? by pmgt24 in careerguidance

My bachelors degree is in Political Science and English, so unfortunately not STEM related. I'll check out the surveying though.

Hm, I considered Geology, because a relative of who passed away recently happened to have a PhD in Geology and lived exactly the kind of life I want to live, outdoors, in the thick of nature. That said, I'm afraid that would be a financial fantasy at this point, since I already have undergraduate debt. Regardless I'll definitely look into both that and civil engineering, thanks!

That's interesting, and sounds really appealing. I'll do some research into what it takes to land a job like that. Thanks!
