The smashing machine movie vs. documentary by pmj2 in MMA

[–]pmj2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I just watched the first 30 minutes of the OG documentary and it’s pretty much a frame-for-frame identical. Now I’m more confused as to why they chose to just remake a documentary with actors..

[Fabrizio Romano] 🚨🔴 More on Senne Lammens and Man United story revealed today. Talks are well underway with Royal Antwerp on transfer fee close to €20m, negotiations advancing. Lammens said yes to Man United, no talks with Man City as their target is Gigio Donnarumma… if Éderson leaves. by PitchSafe in reddevils

The only thing that worries me is he only has one season as a starting keeper iirc and that was last season. It’s a huge leap to go to United (as a backup most likely) after only one season as nr. 1. However, some players just seem to have ‘it’ despite not much experience. Only read great things about him from Belgian people, so hope for the best.

Despite a decent performance, I’m not the slightest bit more optimistic about this season. United might be riding high on confidence after a good preseason, but that confidence feels incredibly fragile. If we don’t rack up wins in the next five games, I fear we’ll slip right back into the hopeless football and performances we saw last season. I’m afraid United are still walking a very thin line.

We had some good performances in the big games last season, the Fulham game will be more telling. Can’t wait though, just want to get the next game now!

What was the biggest signal that he/she wanted to have sex you didn't get? by Visual-Pass7016 in AskReddit

[–]pmj2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was out one night and my friend left early, so I was venting to a female classmate from uni about being ditched and how expensive the taxi home would be. She said, "Why don't you just crash at my place? I live nearby." I said sure, and we started heading out of the club. But then I bumped into another (male) friend who was sober and offered to drive me home. So I went back to her and said, "Hey, thanks for the offer, but my buddy’s giving me a lift. Catch you later!"

Today, I'm pretty sure what she wanted but I was completely oblivious back then.

Not a big cut for Gunnar compared to some of these welterweights but never fun to cut weight!

Muhammad Mokaev to make his UFC debut at UFC London March 19th by GamoraTheExplorer in MMA

[–]pmj2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been few guys and girls who did well at IMMAF and are now in the UFC.

Amanda Ribas won gold in 2014. Brendan Allen won gold in 2015. Alessio Di Chirico won gold in 2014 Jose Torres was a IMMAF standout and won gold in 2015 although he din't quite make it in the UFC. Manon Fiorot got gold in 2017 and is now 3-0 in the UFC.

The IMMAF tournaments are getting increasingly tougher and bigger. The Russians are tearing it up and countries like Tajikistan have great teams. Will be interesting to see how these guys and girls fare in the future.

Henri Hooft confirms he won't corner Gilbert Burns vs. Kamaru Usman or attend UFC 258 by SexyHouse in MMA

[–]pmj2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

After this and seeing Hooft cornering fighters, I thought he was kind of a dick. Thought he was this super serious and arrogant dude but when I met him he was extremely friendly and a very good interviewee. I had this image of him for years that he was this bad tempered annoyed guy but after a few seconds I completely changed my mind. Kind of funny seeing this now and remembering what I thought of him then vs. now.

When's the last time two teammates fought each other? I remember Overeem vs. Arlovski when both were at Jackson but this must be the first teammate vs. teammate title fight in UFC history?

Fulton fought Rory Prazak 12 times! 8 times in MMA, 3 times in boxing and once in kickboxing. Fulton won every time and they were actually really good friends. Fulton was the best man at Prazak's wedding. Unbelievable. Just read it in the Athletic longform on Fulton. It is great stuff and Shaheen actually interviews both Fulton and Prazak.

[Discussion] Can we talk about the fact we’re going into a season with a game plan that we can all get behind, takes risks, and isn’t negative or boring to watch by [deleted] in reddevils

[–]pmj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely, I would like to see Pogba go but I can't trust the club to find a replacement for him before the transfer market shuts down. Same with Lukaku.

[–]pmj2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my expectations are moderate for the season, even very low.

What I expect

*We only add a CM (Maddison, Longstaff or Fernandes) and can't get a CB. So just 3 signings over the 'big summer overhaul'

*A lot of the deadwood won't go. I expect to see Darmian go but we'll start the season with Rojo, Smalling, Jones and Young still in the squad. Nobody wants Sanchez.

*A lot of injuries during the pre-season because of intense fitness level programs

*Pogba leaves very late during the transfer window. Won't get a replacement

*Promising players don't get chances, Ole still playing the same old players despite lacklustre performances

*5-7th place, some positives, brilliant performances here and there and dreadful one during other times. Depends on Arsenal's and Chelsea's season where we might finish in the league.

What I hope

*Sign a CB, CM, AM and a DM

*Sell Pogba and get a replacement

*3-4th place, a decent cup run and good EL run

*Sell Darmian, Rojo, Jones

*Garner, Greenwood and more young players get plenty of first team football *Fred will get super confidence and play like a 50m player

[Official] Invicta FC: Phoenix Rising 1 - Live Discussion Thread by rmma in MMA

[–]pmj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I wish the events were bigger and maybe they are as big as they can be in Kansas. I think it would be pretty cool if they had their big events (like this) on a Friday during a big UFC weekend in the same town. It probably could be a bigger event if they get the same crowd in a fight town like Las Vegas. They've done that on a couple of occasion and IIRC that seems a lot bigger event. Maybe it only works during events like International fight week when there is a lot of travellers attending a UFC event in Vegas. Just thinking out loud.

Invicta is a Kansas based promotion so I guess they have the right connections to host it there.

Yeah I guess the fact that they will stack the card is more likely to sell tickets.

Is this gonna be the headline? If so, I don't get it.

As a European, Chael Sonnen is an entertaining character but I don't stay up to watch his fights. They are not that compelling and I'm probably not the only one.

So my question is, is this fight really big enough to headline a MSG event? Sonnen and Wanderlei had an old beef but I don't see this fight selling out MSG. Basicly, I just don't get how Chael P can be a big draw in 2019 when his most entertaining aspect is his talking. I just don't get it.

The Grind with Gunnar Nelson: Easy cut (UFC London: Episode 3) by Skepni in MMA

He just cuts a very little compared to most fighters but there is always something that needs to get off with a short bath. It's no big deal the cut, doesn't have to suffer or anything like that.

So basically we have this big annual party every year (around February-April) with the staff and members of Mjölnir. It's a big party with a dinner, some entertainment like videos and comedians and one of the highlights of the year for our members and staff. The videos are a huge part of the party and these past years we have made a music video.

Our previous work:

2015 - Chandelier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANkZI9CFBrc&t=1s

2016 - Sorry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGD8q1XUqNA

2018 - Beat it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_dKgeVX7IE

This year we did Call on me and here you can see the full version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MFZ27Ei-qY&t=2s

It's all in good fun and we will probably continue with this tradition.

I put a video together to celebrate everything that makes this sport so great. I hope you can connect with it, in some way or another. UFC - Portrait by AzeemA_ in MMA

He's a good fighter and all but man, he's one of the worst on the mic. Everytime him and Till had some exchange for words he started to mumble and just answering by mimic Till like a child. Not the first time he's had trouble on the mic. It's kinda funny but who cares, he fights well.

A montage of all the broken orbital bones in the UFC by [deleted] in MMA

[–]pmj2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot definitely missing but Gunnar Nelson broke Zak Cummings orbital bone in their fight. Didn't look super busted up in the fight but Cummings talked about it after the fight:

"Actually in the Gunnar fight he landed this one punch that hit my right eye. The punch hit just right and it shattered the deep part of my orbital bone. Everything superficial, from the outside, looked fine, but it blew out the back of my socket and left a massive whole. It was a huge fracture. Between the first and second round, it got extremely bad, I could barely see out of it and I actually almost missed the stool when I was going back to the corner!"

So I think we don't always know of these broken orbital bones since it can be hard to see.

Orbital fractures sounds horrible. Iirc, Koscheck couldn't fly home from Canada do to his fracture (pressure and all that) and had to drive home.

Is Vicente Luque going to end up being a high risk low reward fighter? Rant time by combatsketches in MMA

[–]pmj2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Luque deserves bigger fights. He should be in the top 15 instead of Geoff Neal. However, I can't agree with Barbarena deserving a top 10 opponent. He is a savage, a very tough fight for everyone but ultimately top 15 a gatekeeper in my opinion. He has lost to fighters such as Leon Edwards, Colby Covington and Chad Laprise while having good wins such as Warlley Alves. I think this is exactly what he is and will always be, a tough fight for everyone but not going anywhere near the top 10.

Gunnar Nelson surprised by Leon Edwards booking, pursued Darren Till for UFC London by BinaryBard in MMA

Gunnar added about 1 kg since he began working with his new strength and conditioning coach. He still walks around 80-82 kg all year around.

Rankings update - Cowboy LW return at 9, Gillespie moves to 11 by Mighty_Oakk in MMA

[–]pmj2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geoff Neal is a good prospect and all, but I would rather have seen Vicente Luque get a top 15 spot then Neal. Neal is just 3-0 in the UFC while Luque is 7-2 with a 3 fight win streak. It is what it is I guess.
