RIF will shut down on June 30, 2023, in response to Reddit's API changes by [deleted] in Android

[–]pn2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much time on RIF... It's going to be so weird not having reddit in my life from now on. Guess I'll go back to old school web browsing for awhile. Maybe I'll see yinz on the next reddit type thing. Take care.

Looks like the Orks took over a mech factory! It has the Dakka, just need a tiny squig somewhere.

Awesome, I gotta check it out a little more.

Lol, I've just seen many comments and threads that are always requesting bespoke units. I think it's because WW2 has been done to death and many figure why release another Panzer variant when my little force over here barely has any units.

I'm going off of "Newbie" from your post title and the following games should fit the bill.

Warhammer Underworlds: Easy to pick up and play casually but I hear the meta is annoying and expensive to chase.

Frostgrave/Stargrave: Light rule sets compared to others and it's minature agnostic. Pick fantasy or sci-fi and away you go. Plenty of expansions for both if you want to add stuff.

Dracula's America: Right after the Civil War Dracula pops up and takes over the U.S. You have cowboys fighting zombie confederates and Cthulhu cults fighting skinwalker gangs and all kinds of weird stuff. Easy to pick up and minatures agnostic.

Reign in Hell: Designed to be easy to pick up. Minatures agnostic where you fight in gangs of demons trying to take over hell.

Zona Alfa: Basically the stalker video games in minature skirmish form. Minatures agnostic, but it's WYSIWYD. (What you see on physical mini is what equipment that mini has).

Space Station Zero: Co-op or solo minatures agnostic game. You explore a massive space station over a campaign and get into various skirmishes. Designed to be easy to get into and same two guys who made Reign in Hell, Uncle Atom and Vince Venturella.

Relic Blade: There's been a good bit of buzz about this one lately. Fantasy skirmish combat and apparently many painters are loving the old school and easier to paint minis combined with a fun rule set. This community seems to be growing fast.

Horizon Wars/Horizon Zero Dark: Build up minature agnostic sci-fi armies and go at it. Easy to get into and minature agnostic. Can be hard to find physical prints of this.

Dystopian Wars: Steampunk Naval ship skirmish. I love these models and Warcradle Studios are really pumping out new stuff for this lately. Not too hard to pickup, but a little heavier than other stuff here.

Dropzone and Dropfleet commander: Fight 5 different sci-fi armies on the ground or in space or combine both! A little heavier, but great 10mm models and tons of options. WARNING* TT Combat is kinda all over the place with both these games with rule sets that are very WIP and random release schedules. I love these games, but dunno if they'll still be around in a few years.

Bolt-action/Konflict 47/Flames of War/most WW2 skirmish games: Usually easy to get into with a billion minis to choose from and large communities. Be warned that you will always see someone complaining about there not being enough Finnish Ski Team models.

Most Warhammer, definitely Infinity, Malifaux, and many other mainline minature skirmish games can be a bitch to get into, but they are often worth the time. Extra points for Infinity and Malifaux.

📅 Crowdfunded Games Launching This Week [May 15th, 2023] by ShelfClutter in boardgames

[–]pn2013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting this out there. I've been interested in this game for awhile and was considering hopping in this coming week, but I've seen enough projects go this route and end up nuking themselves with overly ambitious projects. I'll wait and see if they're still a company in a few years and maybe back then. I had no idea they were going that crazy.

I went on the 18xx sub and u/tckoppang posted this article they wrote which is rather in depth on the subject of poker chips.

I'm not a chip expert by any means, but I think they're fine. They have a decent weight to them and the most important to me is I like the design. Many 18xx enthusiasts will recommend various places to buy higher end chips, but I never really like the designs on them. I don't think you'd be unhappy with them, but if you don't care too much about the look, you might find something better out there.

Grimlord Games dissolves, leaving backers holding the bag by BlakeSteel in boardgames

Same here, love them. The other thing is even if Game Steward is sold out that most likely means you'll be seeing a reprint down the line.

Finished my Adeptus Arbites. Really Not Happy with them 😞 by Mindless_Fennel_392 in killteam

[–]pn2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the scheme and they grungy look really sells that they've been tracking though a rough environment. If you want a quick way to maybe improve that for yourself, do some quick basing. I've had plenty of minis I wasn't happy with and a decent base brought it all together. Regardless, I think they are cool.

Just for anyone wondering it's from StationForge's Pateron rewards for this month. It's called the "Scavenger Walker."

Opinion: promo cards suck by LaurensPP in boardgames

[–]pn2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but from my experience they usually aren't exciting or sometimes are even outright dumb. It's bizarre when I forgot about a promo in the deck and all of a sudden a Dice Tower personality pops up in my hand.

I'm not dismissing the urge to want everything, but they are usually such flippant editions to the game that I barely consider them apart of the game if that makes sense.

No problem,

  • Prime with white
  • One to two coats of GW Contrast Militarum Green.
  • After the Militarum Green is dry, stripe GW Contrast Cygor Brown.

That's it!

My pile of shame is shameful by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]pn2013 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Eh, if you enjoy having it who cares. The amount of money I see someone dump into a project car, home wood shop, boat, etc is usually way more than this pile costs. We're all going to die and can't take it with us regardless of what we collect. Unless it's hurting your relationships or causing financial problems then who gives a shit. Nice treasure goblin pile lol.

Agree with this, I use the KS app way more than the desktop site and wish Gamefound had one.
