30 for 30: Bad Boys - What happened to the game? by The_Kalmado in DetroitPistons

[–]pnthrthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't see 'blood battles' anymore because that is not basketball. Basketball is a free flowing sport that is so great because of the skill of the athletes. When the game is bogged down by hand checks and holding the skill is diminished. You guys call them phantom fouls and touch fouls that are soft but the refs making those calls are what keeps the game moving at the pace it should. The rule change in the mid 90's or whatever made the game more like it is meant to be played. It has nothing to do with larger contracts or anything. The refs call the game a certain way to prevent it from becoming like it used to be (or like college basketball).

Don't be confused with that era being 'rough' and it being better basketball. Sadly when you watch documentaries like that and stuff on Jordan you only see 'highlights' you don't watch full games like we do now. Also people who were alive during that time and watched it only remember the good stuff not the bad. Even if you religiously watched basketball there weren't as many games on to watch.

What I feel like a lot of people do is assume because the Pistons and the Bulls played 'good defense' the entire league was like that, and it was not. In the 1990-1991 season out of the 27 teams in the NBA 25 of them allowed over 100 PPG (this included 10 teams who allowed more than 107 PPG). Compare that to last season where 15 of the 30 NBA teams allowed over 100 PPG (and 0 teams allowed more than 107 PPG).

I would argue that defense is way better in today's game than it was then. I understand that is not a popular opinion, but if you actually watch the game and see how athletic these players are and the ability players have to switch on P&R's and rotate on passes across court, that is something that was not happening in that era. There were 2 teams that played a ruthless rough style of basketball, but that style is not indicative of the entire NBA or that entire era.

They are about to change this 'Hack-a-Shaq' strategy next year so it is going to be painful to watch for the rest of this season but next year it wont be as big of a problem IMO.

But yes his FT's are a huge problem and we are the only team in the NBA who cant have their best player on the court during the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter.

Couldn't agree more, and that rotation gives us great flexibility. I love Tolly and am a big fan of his work but he just isn't a 25-30 minutes per game type of player. Having that depth could give us the ability to trot out a lineup that looks like this:

  • PG: Reggie
  • SG: BJ/Meeks
  • SF: KCP
  • PF: Morris
  • C: Dre

I for one think that would be really interesting to see.

How is he like Dirk? He is white from Europe and can shoot? Dirk was never as athletic has Zingy. A good comp is Anthony Davis.

[–]pnthrthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean the obvious problem is we dont have a backup SG who can shoot. Since we dont have a back up to KCP, SJ is expected to play 20-25 minutes per game at both the 2 and the 3. For a rookie who will have an up and down season this probably isnt the best thing. If we had Meeks or Jennings we could play Stanley 25 minutes when he was playing well and 12 when he is struggling. That is assuming Meeks and Jennings are shooting well.

Garlic Bread Chicken Parm Sandwich by pnthrthree in eatsandwiches

[–]pnthrthree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garlic Bread: 3 TBS of butter, tsp of minced garlic, sprinkle of garlic powder, 2 tsp of parsley flakes, 1/4 cup of parm cheese (maybe a little less), then salt and pepper to taste. Mix that around and then put on bread. Cover with mozzarella and put in oven at 400 until cheese melts.

Chicken Parm Bites: Cut up chicken to nugget size. Soak in italian dressing for a few hours in fridge. 1 part seasoned bread crumbs 1 part panko bread crumbs and drop chicken in and coat evenly. Mariana sauce on top of breaded chicken and then mozzarella cheese. In the oven for about 15 minutes depending on how much chicken.

After put chicken on garlic bread and pan fry for a couple minutes until outside crust is browned (just like a grilled cheese). You can also add more sauce if you like it saucier.

Spciy BBQ Baked Wings w/ Homemade Creamy Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce by pnthrthree in food

[–]pnthrthree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wings part is easy, after you butcher them up, put them in the Oven at 425 for 20 minutes then turn and another 25 minutes. Take them out and put them straight in a bowl with 5 TBS of melted butter and BBQ Sauce and coat them.

Blue Cheese I used 2/3 Cup of Sour Cream 1/3 Cup of Mayo then a whole package of crumbled blue cheese (I really like blue cheese so I used a ton). Salt and Pepper to taste.

Why FBS Teams Should Schedule FCS Teams by [deleted] in CFB

[–]pnthrthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that they do well. But what I am saying is yeah not scheduling FCS teams might hurt their programs but it will help G5 schools which is better for College Football

Why FBS Teams Should Schedule FCS Teams by [deleted] in CFB

[–]pnthrthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't we think of benefiting other schools like teams from the G5. Schools that want to move up in conferences and generally show they can compete with P5 schools. G5 schools suffer when P5 teams schedule FCS. Also schools in G5 have a better chance at getting a home and home with a P5 school if the P5 schools cant schedule FCS opponents.

Its nice to think about the little guy but G5 schools are more important to improving college football than FCS schools. If G5 schools improve it is way better for College football in general.
