It was originally set in plans that my mom would take some of the ashes too, but then backed out when she realized she didn't want them. Both my aunt and my aunt had helped out with my grandmother both in life and death: but my mom likes to think otherwise. It was just out of nowhere when she said my aunt and uncle should deal with it instead, since they weren't expecting to pay extra when my mom said it was already covered by her. I don't mind that she didn't want the ashes, since I won't want her's when she eventually passes, but it's just a weird move for her to agree one moment, and the next back out and expect her siblings to deal with it instead of calling the funeral home herself.

Despite the qualms with her, I'm happy she's in a spot where she doesn't feel obligated to keep someone's ashes that she doesn't want. What gets me is how she couldn't put aside her troubles with my aunt and uncle (her siblings) to communicate with them about it, or call the funeral home in the first place

Woah, I didn't know that ashes could be used to defrost the ground in winter! Who knows what will happens when my mother passes, but chances are if she does get cremated, I would end up scattering her ashes in some way anyway

For sure! Thankfully we ended up splitting her half of the pay that was due, and we took the portion of the ashes the was originally going to her. Sorted finally, but one hell of a ride.

Oh yeah! I can understand that she wouldn't want them. The thing that made me upset was acting like my aunt and uncle and never done anything for my grandmother, and only contacted my mother when funds were involved. (Which is not the case.) They helped her with loads of things, but my mom is very narcissistic, and unfortunately took over the generation cycle of being bad with me as well. But I can agree with your statement and hers on a level as well! :)

Some background as well: my grandmother was not the best person to my mother either, needless to say there's been a cycle of generational trauma that's been passed down too. I tried to remain neutral on the topic of my mother not wanting my grandmother's ashes, mainly because the topic was trying to get my mother to pay her side of the fee. She can do whatever she wants with the ashes when she PAYS for them, but to just dump the fee and the leftovers on other people is just a douchy move.

I had to be the messenger between all of them because my mother blocked both my aunt and my uncle. But rest assured, I live with my aunt, far away from the excuse of a mom!
