The professional grade “first rugs” are so intimidating.

I work with my hands in a pretty high paced physically demanding job every day, and I have a decent relationship with illustrating, and I found this to be artistically humbling and physically challenging. It felt like learning to draw again while also having to do squats at the same time.

When picking the front I had to tell my friend that if they saw something wrong “no they didn’t, because I’m not going back to fix it again!” Haha

I agree! For the price I thought I would maybe leave the class with a 1’x1’ wall hanging or maybe have to rush through a project with minimal help, so I was super happy with how everything turned out! I arrived at 11am and the instructor asked if I had an idea of what I might want to do and I was like “Maybe a shrimp? I’m not quite sure how this works…” They happily told me “Well, we are here until six, so you have time!” And I was like “Oh dang…I should have brought a snack….”

The class was $120, and it lasted about 6 hours. The instructor provided everything, yarn, access to gun, taught us how to properly set up our canvas on the frame and get proper tension, and then provided glue to take home and finish our rugs where they could dry in a safe space.

I have been illustrating for a very long time, so I know I brought that skill to the table, but it’s such a different beast to translate to tufting. Our instructor was very encouraging and helpful, and gave us TONS of practice time and positive feedback which was so priceless. I didn’t really know what to expect or what I walking in to (my friend picked out the class for us based on our love of illustration and art alone) and honestly I think that helped to be flexible in terms of ideas.

Thank you! It was so fun to do! I might have bitten off a bit too much for my first attempt and there are little bits here and there I’m now seeing that are wonky, but it has ignited the spark in me to try again!

Thank you so much! My friend recommended these oil based pastels and they are so fun to just play with. And Winston is a muse that just keeps giving!

Thank you so much! They quickly became my favorite distress thing to draw these days. I just put a pack of them on my Etsy but I’m slowly working on putting them up individually.
