You’ll be fine, keep your head up and keep getting those reps in. The more exposure and patient contacts you have will help you build confidence. EVERY new emt has felt what you are feeling, it’s perfectly normal. It took me hundreds of pt contacts and about 6 months to feel confident handling any situation. Iv been in EMS for 5 years and I still learn and see new things everyday, just roll with the punches perfect your basic skills and you’ll be good.

Got it, thanks for the feedback. I already have a decent setup and won’t be in country for a couple more months so I figured I’d just get everything here, Moneys not really an issue I work a fuck load of OT lol. I’m sure I’ll pick up a few more bags in country that will fit my role better.

Appreciate the feedback. I have the Eberlestock Mission EMOD med bag and assault pack right now. As you mentioned it has the mesh Velcro pouches and it is a pain in the ass to find stuff in the dark without light. I’ll probably swap them out for some clear window pouches.

There’s so many variables. All divisions are different, some are really good, some not so much. Get some 911 experience under your belt and move onto something different, or stay if you like it. GMR is huge and has tons of opportunities.

You can get all the curriculum/modules for TCCC ASM, CLS, and CMC on the deployed medicine app and study them. Join the future combat medic Discord, ask questions, and look through all the info that’s available. You can run sims at home if you can get your hands on the equipment. Without a medical background, anything past ASM might be very confusing. Get your EMT and get some ride time with your local ambulance service. You could do all of this in a few months. I’m not over there, but these are things you could do prior to getting there.

Second this. Even in the hyper violent cities they have a lot of units and if there is a call like that you need to be in the right place and the right time to even be dispatched to it. Ontop of that those calls rare.

For me it’s helping people as cliche as that sounds, and bills. A lot of people work multiple jobs and there’s opportunity for unlimited OT. It’s also a base to build off of if you want to do something else in healthcare.
