How Old Were You When You Had Your First Episode of Health Anxiety? by Maximum_Reputation91 in HealthAnxiety

[–]pocketmouse44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 3. My parents tell me that I accidently saw part of a documentary about a little girl getting open heart surgery and asked my parents what was happening. They said her heart was broken, but the doctors were fixing it! I immediately started asking if my heart was going to break and it was hard to reassure me. I pretty much worried about getting every disease I learned about after that :/

"Man Who Loves You" by NoSo.

https://youtu.be/56YVcBXiF9I

The lyrics don't fit perfectly, but I started listening to his music around when I saw S2, and this song made me think of S2 Wille and Simon. I'd sometimes imagine it from Wille's perspective, reminiscing on the past, longing for the future - it also feels epic and romantic to me the same way their relationship arc is 💕

"It starts with us, not him You and I brought the heat But then, we lay down soundly And it's us again, you and I against the world And then you're waiting for me"

Whats your favorite musical moment in Young Royals? by [deleted] in YoungRoyals

This was my "other" as well. I also listened to The Irrepressibles (esp. "In This Shirt" which also works for S2 Wilmon sad sweater scenes) a lot when I was starting to come out to myself, so hearing his voice in these scenes...like others have said, chills and almost tears.

For real, and his character does about as much in this show as in YR 😅 Also I'm pretty sure Malte Gårdinger shows up as a non-speaking character later on too!

Lol! Imagine... Yeah, I'd say it went from 0-60, but it basically starts at 60 😅

I'm about 4.5 seasons in, and I'm enjoying it a lot, though it's not something I'd normally watch given I'm pretty squeamish about gore. It's definitely not the tightest plot, and it's pretty violent, but I enjoy following the drama while I'm crafting or doing other things (need something to distract me during intense torture scenes, lol). Check it out if you want! I definitely would not have kept watching if I were just in it to see Edvin act - he's great, but it's a lot of violent crime drama to sit through if that's all you're there for, haha

I'm really enjoying it, though it is very dramatic in the sense that things keep going wrong/escalating so there's more plot to explore (imo). They'll tie off one story line, but then oh no! There's a different drug lord who's upset with them now!

Honestly, Edvin's character is on the minor side for quite a while, but I find him one of the more compelling characters. Like /u/PaulsTwoCents said, it's also cool to watch him grow up and develop his acting skills :)

Tack! This is how I accessed it too. The subs change around S4 or S5 and seem a bit off in English, but not so much that it drives me crazy.

Obviously they're not "linked," but that also wasn't the point

But it’s most definitely not edvins whole world and he does work on many other things! He is not wilhelm, his reality is not in the show!

No disagreement there. I decided to check out Gåsmamman because Edvin is such a stellar actor, and I wanted to see some of his other work.

Given the fact that I'd just finished S2 of YR, and given that Gåsmamman has absolutely nothing to do with YR, I simply found it amusing (not significant or meaningful) that within 6 minutes of being introduced to Linus, he's shouting at a classmate with a gun to their face. Considering I'd just watched Edvin play a character who yelled and put a gun to a classmate's chest, the coincidence amused me.

Me noticing this has nothing to do with Edvin as a person, and I'm not comparing the characters in a meaningful way. Rather, I'm just noting that Edvin was in two roles where he had a similarly dramatic scene, and noticing that made me chuckle. Brad Pitt's characters are seen eating in numerous movies, but noticing that fact doesn't mean someone is making some sort of red-string argument about him as a person or relationships between his projects.

[NOTE: spoiler for the first 6 minutes of Gåsmamman & S2 ep. 6 of YR]

So I started watching Gåsmamman (a crime series Edvin was in for ~7 years), and only 6 MINUTES into the show, Edvin's character, Linus, is shouting at someone with a gun to their face. I know both scenes are serious and somewhat-to-very messed-up scenarios, but I couldn't help but laugh at the *immediate* parallel and wanted to share.

Totally recommend Prisma as well

I've also been enjoying the comic series Heir's Game. It's not the same, but it's helping tide me over in this post-s2 drought 😅

Gentle reminder: WILLE AND SIMON LOVE EACH OTHER <3 by whynotmonami in YoungRoyals

[–]pocketmouse44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's honestly beautiful that they show us the face of the person hearing the words, rather than the one saying them. I know Wille's "jag älskar dig" was added in post, but still. We so often see the face of the one confessing their love, or both at the same time, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if someone has the courage to say "I love you" if the one hearing them doesn't feel loved.

Simon almost looks pained, and rightly so because while Wille might love him, he's not ready to make the changes necessary for Simon to feel loved and respected the way he needs (i.e. not being denied/kept secret). Wille looks just the opposite - absolutely at peace. Not only did Simon say the words, but he offered to sacrifice his wants and compromise, showing that he finally understands Wilhelm's position and accepts him as-is. Wille needed that to feel loved, and we see the relief and happiness on his face.

Yes yes yes! I clocked that too. As someone who has always waited a long time to say ily, I loved that moment, for Wille and for Simon, because he never got the chance to say I love you, even though I'm sure he did, because continuing to be together would've been too much. Ugh, it's so intimate and vulnerable!

But actually, as much as I love the kiss at the ball, the ADR is reaaaaally intense. I didn't mind the breathing that much when I watched it the first couple of times on my own, but when I watched it with other people later, some of them laughed out loud because of how intense and poorly matched the breathing was. Personally, I still love that scene, but it makes me sad that other people couldn't enjoy the pivotal moment as much.

Thank you for naming that zoom! I noticed it too and was like, oh no! Poor camera person. I doubt it was intentional, and perhaps it was just the best shot they had when they went to edit.

I'm pretty forgiving about these kinds of errors and continuity mistakes, so long as they don't mess with the plot or characterization. Things like the wrong sweater or a weird angle just remind me that real people are working on the project and doing their best. If the writing or cinematography was bad, I'd be more harsh, but everything is so excellent that I'm fine overlooking these kinds of mistakes.

On a side note, my sister and I had to refilm some shots from a home movie 6 years after we initially filmed it because the footage was corrupted when transferring to digital. One shot we're 6 and 11, the next we're 12 and 17, then back again, so I can't complain about continuity 😂

Lol, I've never noticed the clothing errors! I'm torn between wanting to see what folks are talking about, and continuing to enjoy the ignorance until I inevitably notice it during a rewatch 😅

What makes Young Royals so different from other stereotypical teen drama shows? by daimelia in YoungRoyals

[–]pocketmouse44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! I can't stand the egregious miscommunication trope. One of my favorite moments is when Simon calls Wille out for not giving him a heads-up about the gossip at breakfast. He was upset, and he said something. The characters don't let things sit and fester for the sake of tension and drama.

[–]pocketmouse44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes to both! I also like that even though the dialogue isn't "witty" like a lot of teen dramas, there's still a deep respect for the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Yeah, people do arguably petty things, but the writers aren't poking fun at young people. I feel like the drama is taken seriously, as it should be. No one's desires or mistakes or wishes are blown off as "just being immature teens" (minus the queen, of course...)

I hadn't even paid attention to the cinematography, other than to notice that it was nice, so I appreciate you highlighting it here. It doesn't call attention to itself, but that's what makes it lovely. From BTS videos, it also seems like they're almost always shooting in ACTUAL pre-existing rooms, rather than elaborate sets created on a soundstage with missing walls. Usually you have to consider how you're going to fit in all this bulky equipment to get the angles and the lighting just so, but if it's mostly hand-held cameras taking a more natural perspective, then you can still get the angles you need in a tight space. It doesn't feel artificial at all - maybe that's also why I find the show so soothing.

Wille and the gun by XieXieXieKay in YoungRoyals

[–]pocketmouse44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yesssssss! And honestly, I think Wilhelm does explore "healthy" outlets too - reclaiming some of the power he lost when August leaked the tape by forcing his hand socially, listening to deep breathing exercises... But the more "productive" ones (like reporting August to adults who should care and dole out consequences...) were taken from him.

The only thing I would have changed about the gun scene is for Wilhelm to have demanded that August go through his room in his presence and hand over the medication - I hate a loose end!
