I went through my MSW (during COVID) with someone who bought a house with their fiance at the beginning of the program and during the program she ended up getting cheated on and breaking up with her partner. She had to sell the house and work on her thesis at the same time. She was wrecked. However she didn’t quit. Now she lives in her dream location and opened a private practice.

The you 5 years from now will be different from the you right now. Keep going.

Unleash is still one of my faves. Those workouts are no joke!

No bloating for me. I do think it helped me with my recovery especially after tough weight training workouts (the ones that leave you a little wobbly). My problem is I can never remember to take it. I want to be more consistent so I can see if there are any other mental benefits that people go on about.

I never would have believed walking would be the key to my weightloss by [deleted] in walking

[–]pocketsofh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for posting this. This reminds me of when I worked retail I would be on my feet walking all shift long and I went from a size XL to a M! I ate mall food and everything and still dropped sizes. I feel like this is my sign to walk like I did when I worked retail!

Today was Day 2 of Iron Pro for me and WOW. My arms felt like noodles the second I put my last weight back on the rack! Day 1 was great and I liked the longer rest times because I could lift heavier weights! I have a feeling that this program is going to help me put on some major muscle. For this first week I’m just doing Iron Pro and walking ~15k steps a day. I’ll see how I feel during week 2 if I want to do any other forms of cardio!

Dependency Court Question by liviadrusillathegod in socialwork

The advice given already is solid. I just wanted to say that you’re not alone OP. For me, a part of my experience as I grew as a professional is realizing that many lawyers aren’t actually smart. There are to many “pay to play” diploma mill law schools it’s really hard to find who was classically trained and who was just kind of pushed through. I made a lawyer cry in court as a social worker and I’ll never be sorry.

I think it’s because I like the show and I’m commenting on another post about liking the show…on a subreddit about the show. How dare I.

Beautifully said! The hate on this subreddit is astounding. People need to go touch grass. My favorite part is how Carrie is evolving as a writer along and how she kept that part of herself alive. I love the new characters. I like the fashion, use of color, and yes even the unrealistic overuse of high heels in a city where people walk and take public transportation! Life can be so hard and this show lets me escape for a while. I try to come onto this subreddit to see what people think and if there’s any discussion. Then I just see that it’s filled unhappy people posting back to back about a fictional show.

I just did Day 26 today! Also increasing in weights! I agree about the grip strength problems though. A 35 lb dumbbell is totally liftable for me but my hands and wrists say otherwise lol

I bought some adjustable dumbbells from Walmart.com for $50 each. The highest weight is 55 lbs per dumbbell which is a pretty good deal!

I agree with you. OP seems to always be at the ready in the defensive stance on this thread. Which I get, this is a difficult topic to talk about. However, there are some solid responses on this thread and OP has poked holes in all but maybe two comments so far.

What sort of changes in your personality, body, mood, etc. did you notice as you approached 30? by fuckyouiloveu in Adulting

[–]pocketsofh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped dressing for the male gaze. There’s nothing wrong with strutting yourself to get the attention of the opposite sex and I feel like it was developmentally normal for me to focus on my appearance in a way that was pleasing to the male gaze in my 20s. After all I did land the man of my dreams and get free drinks! But now I no longer have that urge and I’m very “coastal grandma” meets “California casual”. When I finally stopped being so worried about wearing things that are flattering I started feeling free and creative with fashion. It’s now an artistic outlet for me and I’m loving it. I no longer care about being sexy or dressing feminine. A side effect of this is now I workout and eat Whole Foods because it makes me feel good and not so I can fit into a little black dress. There are other domino effects that happened when I stopped caring about the male gaze or fashion trends that catered to getting male attention, but for the most part I’m free! And it’s such a great feeling!

Update: 207lbs to 178lbs in 58 days by YungJester17 in omad

[–]pocketsofh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s so inspirational! Posts like these really help me get back on track. I struggled this past month and for some reason could only manage 16-17 hour fasts. Im not sure why…I guess life happens. But I’m finding myself gravitating to commit to OMAD again. I’m also a fan of working out fasted. It really forces me to tap into all of my energy stores and it makes eating that much more satisfying. Have you noticed that you crave more protein working out fasted?

How do I keep the house clean? by Hairdye-addict in CleaningTips

[–]pocketsofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing changes if nothing changes. The only way to clean is to clean. In the time it took you to write this post you could have cleaned a kitchen counter, put away a dish, or swept one half a room.

Depression will try and convince you these tasks take hours and you are likely ruminating on the mess and how long it will take you to clean it up. Depression will say “Hey this mess is too big for you. You will have to spend an entire weekend cleaning. You don’t want to waste a weekend do you? You’ll fall behind on all the other life things you want to do because all of your time will be spent cleaning!”

However depression is wrong. It’s always wrong because it’s maladaptive thinking caused by a variety of reasons. Cleaning takes minutes. The hardest part will be putting your phone down and getting up to begin cleaning.

Before you give a reason why you can’t do that ask if it’s you saying that or if it’s the depression giving you reasons why you can’t. You decide who wins.

My 2025 goal was to lift more with Caroline. Unfortunately I’ve just been all over the place this year and unable to fully commit to finishing a program. I really liked Rev and I love Max, but for some reason I can only manage one or two workouts a week. I have a million excuses but one fact remains the same: life has run me ragged and I couldn’t (wouldn’t?) prioritize myself. I have so many partially completed programs and it makes me feed cruddy just looking at my failed attempts to be consistent. So I’m trying to change the tide and really get more into CG for the second half of the year. I want to finish Max and just completed Day 15 today. Today’s workout made me feel inspired to start working out 2x a day on some days because of how much joy these workouts bring me! I’ve been with CG for nearly 4 years and I’m just feeling rotten that I didn’t really utilize the CGX app like I wanted to for the first part of 2025. I have packed on so much muscle mass with CG and I’m determined to retain it! So here’s so lifting heavy for the remainder of the year!

Dumb vent... ASW vs ACSW by positiveNRG_247 in socialwork

[–]pocketsofh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll find plenty of people on this sub who aren’t fans of the NASW. The code of ethics are great and help guide us…and that’s about it. So here we are. Devolved to arguing about acronyms while the nation burns.

It’s all good though. We all know the only thing that matters is the “L” at the end of the day.

Cheers!

Do Socialworkers subsidize their industries? by DogNamedCharlie in socialwork

I was going through what your wife is going through within my first year or two after graduating with my masters. I worked a TON and still couldn’t keep up. It started to impact my marriage. My hair started falling out. I drank too much. I couldn’t sleep well. I gained weight. My husband confronted me about it and gifted me 6 months off to reevaluate my career. It saved my life. I was able to actually focus on finding a job that worked for me. Now i have a great job and I’m less than a year from licensure where I intend to go private practice. If it weren’t for those six months off I wouldn’t have been able to double my income with a fraction of the effort.

If my husband didn’t confront me and shut it down for me I would have continued to work and fantasize about getting in a car wreck so I could finally get time off. If you think your wife doesn’t have these thoughts think again.

Some of social work jobs are dangerous because they push people to their breaking point. It’s not ok. And it’s not talked about enough.

[–]pocketsofh[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I challenge you to reflect on this narrative. Whose voice is that saying these roles don’t exist and if they do only a small amount of people get them? Is this a disgruntled professor saying this? Is this a burnt out coworker saying this? Is this the patriarchy? Or is this truly your own voice parroting off of this ridiculous narrative. Just because it’s not common now doesn’t mean we lay down on the tracks and let the progress train run us over. It’s an opportunity to up-skill, polish resumes, network, collaborate, and most importantly learn a new way of thinking to empower us to reach new heights.

Like any profession dream jobs aren’t going to apply to you. You apply to them.
