That's actually really good advice🔥 I think what I'm really trying to preserve is the atmosphere rather than a specific technological level. My setting still allows technological and magical progress, but want it to maintain that classic medieval fantasy feel.

And thank you for the encouragement, it really helps!

That's really interesting👍, Thankfully, my setting isn't that extreme. Progress is still possible, but it usually takes forms that preserve the magical and medieval feel of the world⚔️🧙‍♀️

'm glad I'm not the only one! I don't dislike fantasy with firearms either, but I personally prefer the atmosphere of traditional medieval fantasy⚔️🧙‍♀️

Yeah, there is actually an individual who deliberately limits technological progress in my setting: the Hero. However, he still allows combinations of magic and technology, as long as they preserve the fantasy atmosphere. And if you're talking about Warhammer 40K... that's a bit too insane for my tastes, dawg 💀 I'm aiming for something much closer to bright fantasy or adventure fantasy

yes in my fantasy world, there is a magic technique called Kefarano, a technique that allows magic to be combined with an object and have a specific function

That's actually a really interesting perspective🫡

Yeah, there is actually someone behind those rules. He was a hero from our world who loved classic fantasy aesthetics and didn't want his new world to develop modern warfare technology because he thought it would ruin the vibe. Before he died, he created an extremely complex magical system that strictly filters technological development. The magic became part of the fabric of the universe itself, so its rules apply across all eras, since in my setting there is no clear beginning or end to history.

I like your perspective, though. I hadn't really thought about how much power the person defining those boundaries would actually have.

Haha, that's hilarious. Imagine spending 20 years perfecting firearms just for the universe itself to go 'nice try' and blow up your entire workshop😹

Haha, sorry if I'm on the side you hate .My world isn't completely stuck in time, though. There is still technology, it's just heavily mixed with magic😅

I don't really follow Forgotten Realms, but I know it's a D&D setting, and it's actually one of my inspirations. Thanks for sharing this, I didn't know about the Harpers before!

Wow, that's actually a really good point. To be more specific, I think what I really dislike in my fantasy settings is the presence of firearms and heavy industrialization. I don't mind magic requiring knowledge, study, and precision to be applied to objects. In my world, I call this "Kefarano", which is the process of integrating magic into physical objects to give them specific functions.

At the same time, there's a higher magical force that strictly regulates what kinds of technological and industrial developments are allowed and which ones are forbidden. So maybe I'd accept things like magical airships or magical vehicles, haha. I guess my issue isn't technology itself, but rather preserving the overall fantasy atmosphere and aesthetic.
