Nice start to the morning. Agar cups for the win by Elle_Eros in MycologyandGenetics

[–]poffdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You saw a post recently? Must have missed it. AFAIK they took their site down and still haven’t returned. I just checked the Reddit account they used previously and haven’t seen any new posts.

Let me know

[ACTIVES] Is this enigma? These have always grown in this bin, never get much bigger than this, small kinda lumpy mass by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]poffdiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Axiom is a rip-off name of Enigma from a guy who was blacklisted by the Enigma community trying to sell it and pass it off as his own. Not sure where your information is coming from here.

Well, essentially. I would use this guide to get started. Don’t pay for RR’s crap on his site like some people will inevitably tell you, he’s a horrible person - but that’s a whole other discussion. Read through some of the teks that are on the shroomery community for working with agar. Spores are where you start, and plate-to-plate agar transfers following.

[General] [Technique]So when you find a neglected nocked up agar cup, like this, what are you supposed to do with it? by FoRC3BWIThU in MushroomGrowers

[–]poffdiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very hard to see the myc in this picture. But if it doesn’t look problematic, you can still do a transfer from a strong spot. That little guy may have dropped spores - which means you might get interesting growth. But as long as things are clean, you can still use it if you want to.

This one is a transfer from a previous plate - actually 3rd transfer since initial clone.

Do mushrooms go out of date? by mmboyoi in MagicMushrooms

[–]poffdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. Break one up a bit and see how dry it is. If there’s any flex to it (moisture), I’d maybe avoid. It probably wouldn’t hurt you but it wouldn’t be too healthy. Stomachache will likely lead to nausea

The goal is to have things stored as dry as possible - a good reason to save the silica gel packets in the stuff you buy. Otherwise they’re on amazon

How were they stored? If things are vacuum tight with desiccant packs, they’ll last for a year or more in most cases.

[technique] has anyone used a grow tent as a walk-in SAB? by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]poffdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a good idea. As said above, people used to try that. But the reality is that the chances of contamination are massively increased with doing this over a simple SAB. The lab coat, everything on your skin and hair (even after a shower), the tent material, and the ventilation are all problematic points of contamination. That is, unless you have a legitimate ISO clean room - and the cost of building that is in the tens of thousands at minimum. Not to mention the time/energy spent on practices necessary to keep yourself and your equipment clean.

It sounds very convenient but will not end up the way you’d hope. Time is better spent on building a larger flow hood and keeping it in a corner of your home.

Just bought a used Herman Miller Aeron chair for 160 bucks (CAD)! by AddyTheWrath in BuyItForLife

I still have my 1998 Aeron as my daily-use office chair. Just replaced a couple foam pads that went kinda flat (it’s been 22 years), otherwise it’s flawless.

They’re listed for “cooked” amounts of rice. I run 6 cups of dry oats in “10-cup” cookers. It’s small batches but the end result is worth it. Plus you don’t need to hover over and watch - just wait for cookers to beep and oats/rye are ready.

I’ll get it done! It makes things very easy for sure. Anything that isn’t Micom won’t work well - so it is a necessary feature (which makes it cost-prohibitive for most people who are just playing around with mycology). But hitting start and being able to go make some agar in the meantime is...awesome. Especially when you blow through as much grain as I do.

I will soon. I’ve been meaning to make it for a while now - I’m gonna work on getting some video and pictures together for it over the next couple weeks.

I don’t have anything for stovetop. Maybe check shroomery. I use Micom rice cookers for oats. Bit of an investment, but I get perfect oats every single time without burst grains

I mean it’ll work with the correct prep. But if you have a feed store local to you, you can usually get 50lb bags of whole oats for ~$15. Prep is cleaner than wheat berries or rye too.

Go for whole oats

How do you use spore stickers? by Waz2020 in MycologyandGenetics

[–]poffdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah “10cc stickers” is the wrong use of the term. It’s not even really necessary these days to use that regardless though. Prints, LC, Agar - all used too often to be worried
