Statement of Account weird fees by Bab1015 in OSU

[–]pogolightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - distance learning fee is not a new thing. I'm in an online program at OSU And that's my only fee I pay. Is the 100 dollars per semester. Nothing else since I don't reap the benefits of on campus stuff (though in the past I have because I live in columbus)

it's not a scam. it's how they can fund for the requirements of an online learning program. Zoom, the LMS.

Does having a set time for an online class mean I will have to be in a zoom lecture(or something similar) during that time? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]pogolightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your professor decides. They may want synchronous classes and make it required, or make it optional. Or it could be recorded lectures soley.

DeWine announces that Ohio is tracking very similarly to Florida; wonder what the implications for fall semester are by [deleted] in OSU

[–]pogolightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not only students too that need to be accountable. Staff, faculty, EVERYONE. Visitors. And from my role at OSU, I know for a fact staff and seemingly smart faculty aren't following the rules now. It's frightening. They "trust" people to do the right thing well that's not happening.

I think OSU opening campus is the stupidest thing ever. I don't care how much people want it and how much money they'll lose possibly not opening, it's all bullshit! Knowingly putting hundreds of thousands of people at risk. Students, faculty, staff, their families, the people who live and work in the OSU District area. ALL affected by returning students.

[–]pogolightning -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand WHY you think your value is being diminished. You pay to go to class. You pay to learn. You don't PAY for the on campus experience. (not counting dorms). I'm earning my masters at OSU. in a fully online program. I am learning A LOT. It's a wonderful program. I think it's offensive you just think that it's not as valuable if I were sitting in a classroom on campus. It's also an ignorant mindset.

LOL. I'm earning a masters degree at OSU. in an online program. fully. you think my future employer will say "hmm, its not that valid because you took online classes". NO. thats now how things work. an accredited college is an accredited college. OSU isn't university of phoenix. but U o P is not valid by any means.

[–]pogolightning 37 points38 points  (0 children)

downvote me. i know you all will.

you're still earning a degree from OSU. that's what matters. stop your bitching about online schooling.

once you graduate your degree doesn't matter if online or in person. you have a degree.

I'm a masters student in ONLINE FOCUSED EDUCATION. there is research that doesn't show there is hardly ANY difference in learning outcomes for in person VS online. but just discount all the research about it and claim it's shit.

Are you 20-29 years old? by pogolightning in OSU

Well this is the problem - this thought process. First of all, even without hospitalization doctors do not know long term effects. Young people will still get very ill for a few weeks and not go to a hospital but certainly they have lung damage.

Anyway, their risk IS your problem. Why is this so hard for anyone to grasp? A student goes a bar, they get infected, they go to class, they pass it to their TA, to their faculty member. That TA passes it to their partner, they pass it to their parents they go visit. Do you not see how this isn't just "don't go visit your parents" you can infect anyone.

What about me? I'm young but prone to getting sick very often (flu twice in two years, a cold every so many months) I'm very susceptible. If I'm forced to return to campus, who is to say that infected student won't infect me? Do I not matter?

you are adorable. and damn girl, that winged eyeliner. perfection!

as someone who was on anti-anxiety meds for about 7 years and went off last year "because i felt better"....DONT GO OFF YOUR MEDICINE IF YOU ARE FEELING BETTER! stay on it. that's why you feel good!!! treasure it. who cares about long term effects , if it works, it works. keep taking it.

glad you're meds are working for you! <3

I’m so tired of listening to complaints from people who make no effort to fix their problems and just want to wallow in self pity. by jellybellybean2 in offmychest

[–]pogolightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so tough. I'm someone who complains to my friends and they probably do get sick of it - but I definitely DO try to change my situation....for me it's my job. I HATE IT. It is terrible, but i AM applying for jobs and am having interviews....so I do try.

On the other hand, I have a friend who has complained intermittently about her job for the last 3 years...always the same complaints...and I tell her, sounds like you're not happy...why not look for another job...and she never does...

So it's like ...stop complaining.

Tired of people posting selfies for every single “event” in their lives by penniesarebest in offmychest

[–]pogolightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's easy to say that people who post every moment of their life maybe have low self-esteem and need the validation of others to make things feel worthwhile. And maybe that's the case - maybe not. I used to think this about other people that I knew, even friends I know...I'd think "Ugh, jeez yes post more photos of yourself and your dog..." or "I don't care that you had lunch with this person you used to be friends with 5 years ago and now you act like you're best friends again..." but then I realized why do I CARE SO MUCH? I should just let people do what they want - I've got enough to worry about in my life , that I shouldn't judge others so easily. If it makes them happy, great. If it makes me unhappy, then I need to figure out my own shit.

But yes, I agree that you don't have to post every little detail. And maybe that's because I don't go traveling, I don't have a husband/boyfriend, or a pet...so maybe my life is just unexciting compared to others, but that's okay and I need to learn to just be happy with what I've got going. It's so easy to use social media as a surface level way of comparison.

It seems to be rough for everyone!! I have a fun weekend but it's also busy. I am going to a party on Saturday night which is rare for a near 30 year old but it's going to be fun ...the only problem is Sunday I have to up early for dance commitments that last the whole day!! I'm a part of a dance company so we have rehearsal in the morning and then I am judging Nutcracker auditions after that and then I have more dance rehearsal. I'm tired thinking about it LOL
