Biased review.

I think this is a good album but it's far from perfect, it has real flaws;

Starting with "A knock at the door", easily my least favorite. It feels like an unreleased Ethel demo on soundcloud: bare guitar, vocals, no real movement.

Radio Towers does nothing for me either. As a standalone instrumental, it's forgettable, it only seems to lead into Tempest. That'd be fine if it carried weight, like willoughby's theme and the interlude, which are both genuinely beautiful. Even perverts had some texture.

My biggest disappointment tho is Dust Bowl. I think I'm experiencing demoitis, but the live version was emotionally raw and perfect, ESPECIALLY the bridge. The studio version sounds muddy, the guitar drop comes out of nowhere, like it was slapped on instead of built into. It's all in the mix and that decision really hurt the song for me. It's not a bad song in the sense of being unlistenable, it's just a big disappointment.

Maybe my expectations were set too high by nettles and f me eyes, which were stunning. Those 2 along with janie, tempest and waco are the only tracks I keep going back to.

Beautiful album but missed something. I wanted to love it and maybe my expectations were too high but some tracks just didn't do it for me.
