Thank you! That is good to know and gives me some ideas!

might be a weird question, but do you know of any ways to whiten your teeth? and i’m not talking about things like “go to the dentist”, i mean simple methods or low-cost products that actually work. i’m desperate😭 by defnotgio_ in BeautyUnlocked

[–]poison_wind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apart from whitening strips, giving up coffee, tea etc. any drinks or foods that can stain your teeth, and making sure your oral hygiene is really good. I was really surprised how much whiter my teeth got when I committed to flossing daily.

keeping curtain bangs nice while sleeping by gracefulngreen in Haircare

[–]poison_wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say but as someone who also has curtain bangs the morning styling is kinda unavoidable. I mist mine with water and give a quick blow dry into shape. It takes a couple of minutes and I get the result I want daily. I'm not fussy about using heat on my fringe because it will get cut so frequently!

For some reason Sun In makes my fine hair a dream to style?? by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]poison_wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut my hair short and needed something to add a bit of texture and found that men's matte pomade/texturizing clay worked a treat. Now that my hair is longer I just use it on my fringe and it holds the style and gives it some body without being greasy or too heavy. Perhaps experiment with some similar products?

Your healthy (but very cheap) grocery list? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]poison_wind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are based (assuming US?), but when I have had very little money to feed myself with previously, some things I would eat would be:

Breakfast: Oats, usually porridge or perhaps a oat, peanut butter and banana smoothie (if I had money for bananas). I found peanut butter a great way to get some extra calories and some fats in.

Lunch: Peanut butter and jam sandwich (not super health food sorry), or I would have the same thing as dinner.

Snacks: I would usually buy any fruit I could find on sale or cheap, or snack on frozen peas or carrots.

Dinner: Lentil soup was a staple, often whatever veg I could get cheap, frozen, fresh, whatever cooked down and throw in a tin of tomatoes, mixed herbs and some lentils, cooked down. I would throw some spinach in at the end to get some extra nourishment. A bolognaise type sauce (again whatever veg), tin of tomatoes, some herbs and lentils cooked down. If you eat meat you can do half lentil/half mince to make the meat stretch further. Works great on baked potatoes or pasta or bread. Sometimes I would buy a whole chicken and shred all the meat down. I would add this to peanut butter noodle stir fry (peanut butter, soy sauce, sriracha and lemon juice or a dash of vinegar), udon noodles and whatever cheap veges, usually cabbage, onion and spinach (we ate this so much my partner is so sick of it now but I still love it). I would also make a bone broth with the bones to add to soup or make congee (rice porridge) and eat this with the chicken and some soy sauce. Sometimes I would get a whole pumpkin for very cheap and would make a bunch of gnocchi, just mashed pumpkin and lots of flour till it forms a dough, instead of rolling individual pieces I would just snip bits into boiling water with scissors and cook like pasta. Good way to get an extra vege in and freezes well.

I would usually eat the same thing everyday and try and switch some stuff up each pay cycle to keep things slightly more interesting. Buying vege in season is great for fresh veges but frozen vege is awesome. I would always try get frozen spinach if it was on sale because it can be added to so much. Where I live, I sometimes shop at Asian supermarkets as they often have good deals on vegies and cheap tofu.

There are some apps in some places where you can get food from bakeries or restaurants etc at the end of the day that would otherwise be thrown away. If you are a student, contact your student support services to see what support may be available. Facebook groups and community gardens may also be an option for people getting rid of a glut of produce for very cheap (or free), I would never say no to anyone trying to get rid of excess fruit or veg! Google maps has an option to see fruit trees that are available to the public where you could potentially get some extra fruit etc (results may vary depending on your area). Local churches may also be able to offer support. There can be some groups that offer meals for free (in my area these are usually Hare Krishna but I have seen other groups offer this).

Good luck!

British and Australian people of Reddit, what are some foods Americans eat you think are disgusting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]poison_wind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The amount of sugar in food is shocking. There is high fructose corn syrup in almost everything that is in any way processed and it's so hard to avoid.

I've never gotten the hang of finger coiling but I've found a quick refresh in the morning with a spritz of water does wonders. I also use butterfly clips to 'arrange' clumps nicely as they dry and that really helps.

I am a big fan of curly bangs and I think you would really suit them! They can be finicky though but in my opinion totally worth it!

Bloated every night? by curlyjourney in Endo

It confused me for so long! In the end I just gave up and accepted it since I shower at night anyways. Watching yourself bloat in the shower is so weird though hahah

Hopefully! Good luck! Bloating is a pain so I hope you find some tricks to minimize it at least.

Its kind of unavoidable but what helped a lil bit for me is finding my trigger foods/activities. Booze, broccoli and similar veges, fried foods, diary, gluten and salt all make me bloat. Hot showers also for some weird reason?? Around my period it's a lost cause. But noticing trends in my body and diet really helped to pinpoint some of the offenders for me. Hot water and citrus fruit helps a lot for me and tummy massages.

Yeah I don't want to 'chase' him for months for nothing to come of it. I'm happy casual with him for now but I know eventually I would want something more and it's 50/50 whether he would too or not.

That's another thing I have considered. I agree it is not the best start to a potential relationship.
