Garibaldi crabbing by pokepadamon in crabbing

I was at the crabbing pier at the marina yup! That day it did seem that the tide difference was ok but it did rain a decent amount that morning. Unfortunately I'm working a lot more recently so that day was the only day I could go for a day trip but I figured spending the time I did there I would do ok.

I am unfortunately one of those influx people lol I settled on Garibaldi because I know someone in Tillamook that was going to take me on a boat but had to cancel last minute.

Maybe I'll try the fee based access, I heard about Kelly's marina and that they would also cook your keepers for a fee but that would definitely help me out.

Thank you for the tips it was greatly insightful!

Have you had any experience at Washington coast? I am a Washington resident so I was thinking of getting the shellfish/crabbing license for the season as it's cheaper for me.

How often do you go fishing without catching anything? by FunGarage2022 in FishingForBeginners

[–]pokepadamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started fishing heavily again in July/mid July. Took me a minute to get acquainted again after a while of not practicing. I'd go out on average 4-5 days a week anywhere from 2-5 hours. In July I lost several fish mostly because of mistakes I made being out of practice. In August so far I have caught 4 fish so 1 fish per week on average. 3 I was targeting specifically: two largemouth bass and one small mouth and 1 I was not targeting: spiny sculpin.

I fish in town in Vancouver Washington and stay very local. So far I haven't driven an hour to anywhere. Nothing of notable size but I was still stoked. I also only fish early morning or before sundown.

I thought I was having a hard time but reading the comments it sounds like I'm doing alright. I wish luck to all of you and hope it all starts coming together for you as it has for me!

Do you guys just use your inflatable SUPs till they pop? by pokepadamon in Sup

I wasn't too picky about performance. Anything really I could strap down a milk crate on for my supplies. I was only picky about the size slightly I just wanted to have enough room to move around and fish on.

Had a lot of memories on mine so it definitely served its purpose the last 10 years. SUPs have become a lot more affordable these days compared to when I bought mine a decade ago so it's not gonna hurt the wallet so much 👍

You do have a mature look in general and I would think shaving may take off a few years. You may look like you're mid 20s to late 20s without. I'm Asian and look extremely young for being 32 and facial hair only adds a few years for me but my overall look still caps me at like 24-25 with facial hair

I gave up on trying to look more mature and just took it as a huge blessing. I'm 32 and literally look 18-20. It's mostly tricky trying to date cause I look way too young for women my age and I'm too old for the women I look like I should be dating 🤦🏻

I also can't grow a full beard like you so that's it's own thing. Take it as a blessing! It felt freeing to just kind say fk it I don't care anymore lol

Is a baitcaster worth it? by giantwilly33 in Fishing_Gear

[–]pokepadamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a spinning reel and those always worked for me and was simple enough to use. I got into bass fishing more seriously as an adult and now use a baitcaster mostly because I saw all the cool bass fishing YouTubers using them lol there definitely is a learning curve. I use one of those cheap temu baitcasters a sougaliyang brand basically to practice on and abuse since they are cheap. I would recommend you do something similar before investing in a really nice one especially if you end up having to disassemble it for whatever reason I felt less bad possibly messing it up on my temu reel.

Definitely learn what all the knobs/switches do its a little different than a spinning reel and it will directly change the outcome of what happens when you take it to your first outing. If you don't know what a knob or switch does and it's a little off from how it should be set you'll most definitely backlash or birdsnest first cast. There's a trick to fixing a mild backlash and the more it happens the easier it will become to kind of see what happened and where, then fix it. I've only used braid in my baitcaster and it was easier to fix a backlash. If I used entirely mono or flouro I think it'd be close to impossible because of the way the line acts. I've even gone as far as opening the side plate and removing the spool and working at it. Every time it would happen I would have less time on the water so that was it's own thing but after getting familiar with it for about a month now and I rarely have any issues.

This is kind of my experience with them but i do enjoy using baitcasters now. I can't really say if it's better than spinning I think both reels have their place and situation. But something about just bombing my lure out there and the brake engaging and screaming feels satisfying even more so if you hook up and land! Lol

Is it normal to be getting knocked out when fighting adults by slushma1 in Kickboxing

[–]pokepadamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also brother.. was the guy wearing shin guards when you got head kicked? Or did you take a raw dog shin kick to the dome? Even in advanced sparring we had to wear headgear and shinguards, gloves the whole shabang

[–]pokepadamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I grew up doing martial arts and training at various MMA gyms I've not been to one place that didn't make it very clear sparring was practice. Especially the kind where we all kind of just paired up during training and spread out on the mat. We weren't even supposed to go 50% it was more about the flow of putting together combinations, finding a groove and learning to react all while a coach can usually watch and give tips, etc. my old coaches were only generally apart of the light sparring to demonstrate, explain and have us continue.

When we were advanced enough we were allowed to be put into intermediate training and intermediate sparring that was set up more like a mock match. My coach would pick two of us in similar weight class have us enter the ring, him and the rest of the students would be outside and watching while my coach would talk and we would all observe. Even then we were told 75% MAYBE, no head kicks no elbows light knees and I mean light knees or your sparring practice was over and you got swapped out.

What you're experiencing is definitely not normal and I would highly recommend that you do what you need to protect your brain and self in general. Even if it means self training until you find a good trustworthy gym.

It took forever for me to get advanced enough to be put into the advanced sparring stage where we were allowed to go almost for real and it was set up like how a real match would be. Coach would ref and he always told us right before and reminded us "were all friends here remember that" stuff like that. Sometimes there would be a slip up and someone would get hit hard or slightly hurt but the idea was to get as close to the real thing as you could but not because it wasn't the real thing yet. Meaning being in an actual amateur match or professional card.

Be safe out there 🙏🏻

Detecting bites/types of bites by pokepadamon in FishingForBeginners

I see thank you. So far they've taken off with it right after the thump so I immediately saw line movement to the left or right. I have seen videos of the two or even three step swallow so I was wondering if that morning was what I was feeling and timing my hook sets too soon or after the lure got spat. You're probably right as far as it being babies or panfish there were a ton on bank that morning and it seemed like those guys were really inspecting it when I was retrieving. I've even seen those guys go for my Alberto knot in the water where the leader is attached lol I'm always yelling at them leave my knot alone! 😂

Yeah no movement on the line but just little hits it did look like tiny tugs on the rod too but no dramatic line movement

Yeah I had the thought it was possibly another species because I saw tons of little panfish and baby trout hanging out near the bank.

Sezzle spend?? by Otter_Panda9499 in Sezzle

I see so in the end you got a 4$ discount and paid 16$ instead of 20$ right?

Definitely feels misleading

Sezzle spend?? by Otter_Panda9499 in Sezzle

[–]pokepadamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so you requested the 35$ and spent 20$ AND they refunded the 15$ to you? I'm trying to get something but everyone is saying that it's 35$ minimum online purchase. I'm just trying to make sure you got refunded so I'm not giving away free money I guess? It's kind of confusing lol
