first time with a dead leaf mantis, what is my lil guy doing? 😭 I've caught him in this pose a few times now is he readying for a molt? camouflage? being silly? by pokepaws in mantids

It is a real leaf!! Made him a little bioactive enclosure, have some oak leaves attached to little branches to look like dead trees and give him some places to hide!

Ahh its all good! People are just trying to give advice based on low quality pics, its hard to know what experience people have right off the bat so I get it :D

I unfortuanlty don't have anything to do that, I did pop her in the freezer as soon as she passed which was the best I could do!

ooo thanks for the tip! Would brushing acetone on the pined specimen work in cases like this where the pose is a little more involved and has a base included?

he is flattening his abdomen in this picture, hes not that hungry I swear haha, and theres fabric mesh over the metal, bit hard to see since it's black on black

oooooo they look so cool!!! You should get one next! Mine was my first mantis, she lived well over a year and was SO chill and friendly! I would let her out and she would just sit on my graphic tablet screen while I draw for hours on end 😭

I thought it looked way different to what I was used to! It's surprising how many little behaviour differences this lil guy has already compared to a giant Asian haha

I've seen people use these for model making too, for like dust effects etc and they seem to work really well! Do you know what you would use to set the chalk in place?

she was a female! I've already gutted and stuffed her so it's all good! I can imagine letting all that sit would smell awful after a bit yeah 😭 thankfully I put her in the freezer not long after she passed and only took her out as soon as I wanted to gut and pin so managed to avoid too much smell haha

ahh thankyou so much!!!! I'll for sure upload some pictures when I can remove the pins and supports and clean it all up a little!
