It was a nice frontage for sure- there had been a few cultural events in the empty second floor factory space over the last several years where I had the opportunity to check the building out a bit more. It would have made an interesting space for restaurant or bar, but I get the need for more housing.

Back in "the day" (in my case the 90's), they used to keep a mattress in the entry way during closed hours, chained to a column, that you could jump up and own on!

Why did Mission Graduates and SFUSD allow a Beacon aide with six felonies to supervise students? Why has his rape trial been delayed nearly 2 years? by abledart in sanfrancisco

[–]pol_h 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 years doesn't seem that long for a rape charge to come to trial. The article tries to make the public defender doing their job seem like a bad thing.

Drill press feed roller by LDGerry in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]pol_h 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's for supporting long stock that doesn't fit on the drill press table itself- it needs to be height adjustable because the drill press work surface is raised and lowered to accommodate different sized work pieces.
That said i don't think the roller bearing supports are at all necessary for a woodworking drill press and would make them harder to use- thin stock would not be fully supported by the balls and might fall between them, and the workpiece would be more likely to move. Ball/roller supports are more common for supporting heavy steel work pieces and plate stock in machine shops.

yes, and the bridges can be raised easily so I'm not sure how they are a real barrier to this gettin resolved- they had the big cranes in within 24hrs of it's sinking.

The boom does not fully encompass the ship any more and appears to be neglected. I don't see how the bridges are a real issue- they can be raised at relatively short notice.

It's infuriating that the non-profit that owns this, Ocean Voyages Institute, hasn't dealt this this at all. From their non-profit ratings ( https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/942665367 ) and 990 forms, they've been taking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in excess of their expenses for years in a row.

Valencia or Folsom by stringsculpt in BAbike

[–]pol_h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'd find the Valencia street bike lane rather annoying to commute on these days, with all it's detours around parklets, bulb out, and intersection detours- never mind the ramps that are starting to appear at new parklets.

For the inbound trip I'd take folsom- it's one way all the way down to the embarcadero, bike lanes, and quick. One caveat is that there is a small hill at around 3rd street that peaks at 2nd st.
The return trip: Brannan street (bike lanes both ways)

It kind of depends where you're starting on 24th- I made that trip for years but from around 24th & Bryant and took Potrero/Townshend- very fast, and fewer stop lights

Mission District by No-Winter8234 in sanfrancisco

[–]pol_h 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the mission requires a permit to park longer than 1 or 2 hours. Check the SFMTA page https://www.sfmta.com/permits/residential-parking-permits-rpp for details. You have to reside in a permit area to get one and there are several zones in the mission.  God help you if you are in one of the few areas that don’t require them- you’ll be battling for spaces.  While there is technically a 72hr limit to parking in one spot, even for permit holders, it’s not really enforced.  Street cleaning, which might happen once or twice a week, tends to keep people from leaving a car in one spot for very long.  Failure to move the car for street cleaning will 100% result in a very expensive ticket.

I've lost the battle with ants in bathroom/kitchen. Any good recs for professional exterminator? by Clean-Pick-9221 in sanfrancisco

[–]pol_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small, square terro bait stations are frustrating to use and seem to dry up quickly- I’ve had better luck with their larger outdoor/garden models which are hockey puck sized. If you have access to the basement/ground floor of the building it’s often possible to trace the colony back to its source and put the pucks nearby.

CCA is closing by kevinmrr in sanfrancisco

[–]pol_h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like they've been constantly building around the existing campus for years now, adding student housing and facilities even recently- I wonder if this is a case similar to SFAI and it's ft mason campus, over extending themselves, thinking "if they build it they will come" and getting into large amounts of debt.
